I travelled alone and really enjoyed the resort. Beautiful room..love the purple color in decor, great service, staff and absolutely beautiful pools and beach. I loved the entertainment and people that worked there were so nice and hard working! Thank you for all you do!

We had an excellent stay here. Traveled with a group of 7 (ages varied from 50's, 30's, 20's, and 11). We would definitely stay here again. The rooms were clean, lots of activities on site, food was good, hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. Marisol, who worked the front desk made sure we were taken care of upon arrival. Don't hesitate to book here...you will love this resort!
O and this past weekend 7/23/21 they put the alcohol dispenser back in the rooms.
My first experience with a RIU Hotel - Playacar
Reviewed 21 July, 2021
My experience with the hotel was not good, but I don't just want to mention what was bad. The good points were:
- Courtesy of most employees
- Quality of the internet, which allowed me to work while on the beach
- Protocols with covid
Now the problems:
- Quality of towels, which are not consistent with a hotel of this category
- Amount of people selling things on the beach, which means that every 3 or 4 minutes someone talks to you to offer something... for those who want to rest or read, this is very irritating
- The transport service that the hotel offers is bad, it doesn't have fixed times and it's not very safe
But the worst part of the experience is that my safe was opened and some of the money that was in my wallet was stolen.
I was already suspecting that something was wrong, because someone had removed the card that connects the electricity, and I was already at the hotel for 10 days when this happened and I didn't understand why. I was without electricity for a few hours thinking that the problem was in the whole hotel, until I discovered that the electricity card was not correctly inserted.
After that, on the same day, someone knocked on my door and when I opened it there was no one.
These facts on the same day made me suspect that something was going on.
Two days later, when I came back from the beach, I saw my safe open. Fortunately they only took a part of my money.
I believe that in a place where people are partying, drinking, they might not even realize what happened. But I was traveling alone, working and I don't drink. As I was traveling alone to a new country, I was very attentive to everything and I never left the safe open.
What bothered me the most was that the hotel management didn't care about anything. I was only told that my card was used to open my room, even at a time when I was on the beach and that she could have verified this, as access to the beach is unique and we went to get towels and return them. Besides the fact that something was done to my card two days earlier, which I warned her about.
Unfortunately, as management doesn't care if this type of problem occurs, it will continue to happen, so I think the warning is important. Don't trust the vaults. And not even that the hotel management will help you with your problem, because in my case, they didn't even ask me if I had money to take a taxi to the city....
We had the same experience as MCB with the Riu letting guests get completely intoxicated to the point of passing out.

This was our 3rd time at the Playacar and Will not return again. The staff at the Riu were completely over serving guest to the point of guest passing out around and in the pool, we watched a young lady pass out and have to be removed from the pool.
We saw guest throwing up at the swim up bar and on the sides of the swim up bar pool.
Several families would have Bluetooth speakers trying to playing over each other’s music. The staff acted as if they were too intimidated to tell them know or to ask them to stop.
This is not a family resort. We’ve booked a trip back to Playa again over New Years and will be staying at another resort.
Worst all inclusive resort!

I was completely dissatisfied with this resort. The room was not clean, they offered day passes to the public which was not disclosed during booking. With that said the Mexican police were called on site for the unruly guests. I have never vacationed at an all inclusive that sold day passes. The ambiance was ghetto compared to the other RIU’s I’ve stayed in the same location. The staff was rude and didn’t seem to want to help with questions. (Aldo and Mary were the only helpful staff members) The place also smelled like mold. It reminded me of a bad Cancun party in the 90’s. The food was weird. (Please note this was my 4th vacation to Mexico) it was horrible.. wish I could get this time and money back. If you’re booking. DO NOT book here. Trust me you get what you pay for… add a few extra dollars for a true all inclusive experience.
