What a gem!!

What a gem this place is! We were in Southside Virginia to visit family and friends and decided to stay here for a change of pace. It is in such a beautiful setting. With the leaves changing it was even more stunning. One felt one had stepped back in history which was special to my husband and I as we are native Virginians. The staff at the desk were welcoming and helpful. Our room was spacious and we had a balcony that overlooked the trees. Our son joined us and he had a beautiful room with a canopy bed. We had dinner and drinks at Darbys Tavern where we met a local gentleman at the bar who was a fountain of knowledge about the area. The next morning we toured the plantation house which was was fascinating. If I had one complaint it would be that there were no safety bars in the shower. Other than that it was a flawless visit.
A great weekend

My wife and I decided to stay at this resort for our Anniversary due to its antique charm and appeal as well as travel time . We were not disappointed! The registration attendant (Nancy) was very informative about the grounds and her professionalism was commendable! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the Berry Mansion worth seeing (beautiful southern charm)! Parts of the hotel need some TLC (e.g., exterior upkeep, window cleaning. and new room curtains). The hotel has a pool and sauna; however, a hot tub would be nice! We did a couples massage on the premises (definitely a must)!Food on the premises at Darby’s Tavern was absolutely delicious! Overall, worth the stay!
Interesting, unique hotel, clean and comfortable room

I was here one night on business. My room was clean and comfortable, and I really liked the hotel’s uniqueness after staying in too many bland chain hotels. The grounds were beautiful, and I hope to have more time to explore them on my next business visit to the area. The front desk attendants were helpful, and the housekeeper who serviced my room did a great job. My teammates who have stayed here recently on business have been happy as well.
Worst foot spa EVER!

I can’t believe I was charged $59. for lotion on legs and polish on toes! No massage, no salts even though they were on her tray, no trimming of toes…unbelievable. NEVER again! I supposedly was to receive a pedicure. I will never recommend a pedicure. Oh, and the chair didn’t vibrate! Darby’s restaurant was delicious. Food was plentiful and very tasty. I was really looking forward to my pedicure…left sooooo disappointed.
New Management is a bust!’

I have stayed here for the past seven years while visiting family in the area. It use to be first rate, but it’s seeing some issues lately. Looks like a new company took over in 2018. There have been booking issues, parking issues, and cleanliness issues. Note that breakfast is truly continental so if you expect a full breakfast plan on driving into the nearby town. This is not about the site manager who tried to rectify a staff change, it’s about the marketing. Nice venue for a wedding or conference, but it’s not a resort as people might think. It is sad to see that so many changes are happening. However, don’t book on line, if you do call and confirm the reservation is correct. Ask for an immediate confirmation that you can read for accuracy,
