Good for a night passing through
Reviewed 10 july, 2022
Stayed a night on the way from northern Wisconsin to Texas. Property is located right off I-44 with several places to eat nearby. This Fairfield is the older kind and is in need of an update. Staff was friendly enough.
Average hotel, nice staff in a good location.

The location of this hotel was a perfect first stop from Chicago. and I was thrilled to see a 50's Route 66 style diner across the street (I just love Diners!!!) This seemed to be an older Fairfield Inn, a little smaller. even so, our king room was quite large. The young woman at reception was so friendly, it felt like a welcome home! Unfortunately, I think the hotel was pretty empty, so with not too many guests, the lobby coffee was not hot (after all, why make a huge pot of coffee, then throw most of it away. Same was true for the morning breakfast. I am used to lavish hot buffets at Fairfield Inns, but this was very limited. No eggs, no bacon or sausage, just some prepackaged sausage biscuits, prepackaged toaster waffles, and some cereal. Totally understandable with limited guests, again, why throw most of it away. I was also disappointed that this hotel is following Marriott's "latest and greatest" idea of filling in their Whirlpools. After a long day on the road, I appreciate being able to grab 20 minutes in a Hot Tub to relax. But those days seem to be vanishing rapidly. Shame on you Marriott.
Did not get room reserved

Early in our travel for the day, my brother and I reserved two king rooms When we arrived the front desk wanted to give us one room with two beds. While I love my brother, i did not want to share a room with him The clerk then apologized and said she misspoke and indeed we DID reserve TWO king rooms. I was then given a handicapped room. When I got to my room and noticed what I thought was a mistake, i immediately went to the front desk for a correction. I was told the only rooms left were two very musty rooms. We had just driven for 12 hours, was tired so I just kept the handicapped room. Unfortunately this room may have been needed by a handicapped person and would now not be available. This room was not what I had booked and in addition made me feel very, very, very uncomfortable. Thus, my choice was a handicapped room or a musty smelly room. It appears that rooms are assigned when people arrive and not when reserved. I will not stay at this hotel again. Also, please notice when all the good ratings were given appear to be from 2020 and before.
Overpriced for failed upkeep

Stayed here a few years ago at which time I really enjoyed my stay. Very different on my return visit! Prices were the highest in the area- I paid thinking I was paying for quality. I unfortunately was wrong. My room smelled like mildew; the bathroom ceiling was riddled with mold stains. The gym equipment was nonfunctional. I left the next day to stay in another hotel down the road which was 1/2 the price but so much cleaner. Shame on you Fairfield for price gouging on rooms you clearly failed to upkeep over the years.

My total cost was supposed to be $273.61. I was charged $320. When I questioned them about it, I was informed it was an incidental fee. I’ve never been charged this before. It was further aggravating because I have a $500/day limit on my debit card and we’re on a tight budget. Nowhere on their website is this mentioned. I was told it would be refunded, but I wouldn’t see it for several days after checkout. I was told by Susan that this is the way it’s done. My son and I travel a lot for 4-H shows and never have we been charged this. Very disappointed.
