Lovely hotel, great location
Opinión escrita el 31 de Agosto de 2021
We found the hotel to be throughly charming, beautiful building and location. Executive twin and double rooms were a good size and very clean, maybe a little dated. Great access to lake and parkland off the gardens. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful, although the dining room felt more like a youth hostel canteen. The WiFi was ok whilst we were there but weren’t using for work/ to stream anything. The reception staff (Jan in particular) could however have been more friendly. Not the warmest of welcome or check out!! Wouldn’t stop us visiting again though especially as we got such a good overnight rate. Buscot park and lechlade on Thames nearby were a great find. With a little more care and attention by the owners, staff, this place could be amazing.
NO HIGH SPEED WIFI!

Chose this hotel because of the advertised WiFi which I needed for work and family contact a d streaming a sports game. It was non existant in the bedrooms, etc, and just 1 bar signal at Reception. I was offered the Business Centre but couldn't spend my whole life there waiting for messages!
Also, it's quite well placed for the M4 (Swindon), A419, and reaching the Cotswolds.
An average 3* star hotel with clean bedroom, TV, and ambiance of the 1960s. Decent sized bathroom with toiletries.
Friendly reception staff.
Dinner was average and breakfast was buffet style and was OK but nothing special.
Extensive free car parking.
THE VERY BIG +VE FOR THIS HOTEL IS ITS 'PRESENCE' AND THE PICTURESQUE EXTENSIVE HOTEL GROUNDS.
Covid19 prevention by guests was POOR during my stay (many did not wear masks where requested?) and was not overseen/policed by hotel staff
I appreciate that it's been a difficult few years for hotels but this one could be so much more with improved attention to decoration detail - - it just looked bare and slightly run down.
WiFi is worse than dial up from the 1990s

Very pretty area and lovely reception staff but honestly the WiFi is worse than dial up from the 1990s, and as I'm here for work it is unfortunately essential that I have a good connection, so this is a massive issue for me. As someone who was raised, and still lives, in the Wiltshire countryside, I know it's not hard to sort out good WiFi nowadays, so no excuse. Very little choice at the bar too, only four beers on tap, and only one of them is an ale.
Well situated but ultimately average hotel

The hotel is a very picturesque building set in some nice ground for walking around, and is relatively well placed for access to the Cotswolds. The room was clean and the staff were very friendly. If we had just stayed for the room/bed, probably would have had a better opinion. Dinner at the restaurant was ok, but nothing special, and the breakfast was on the pricey side. Again, it was OK, but clearly just sourced from a generic supplier, so nothing befitting the cost. The pastries were not overly fresh, and the coffee was generic at best. Such a shame really as this could be a wonderful hotel if they put some effort in, and that brings a certain sense of disappointment.
In short, it's not a bad hotel at all, but it certainly isn't excellent. Service and provisions much more closely aligned with 2-star hotels, and so ultimately a touch disappointing.
Will £2 M be enough to give this place some soul ?
Opinión escrita el 7 de Agosto de 2021
This place was owned by Honda for the last 30 year, with the closure of their nearby Swindon Factory they sold the hotel to a new owner in March 2021,
The new owner has had limited time to put their own mark on the hotel and deal with the impacts of covid, which is why the building feels like Honda cars, functional but uninteresting.
Most of the bedrooms are in a Travelodge type block to the side of the original old buildings, along a dark corridor with low ceilings. The rooms have very dark furniture in and clearly show the underinvestment under Honda ownership.
We had a pleasant stay and the staff were friendly, if a little short on the ground most of the time!
The grounds and setting are spectacular and there is lots of room for enhancements
The key question is will the new owner invest enough to realise its full potential?
They have stated that they intend to invest £2 M to upgrade the property, this can’t come soon enough,. Giving the current state of the accommodation will this be enough to give the soul the place sadly lacks.?
It will be interesting to see how their plans develop
