More about the hotel
Very good hotel on business
Stayed with Novotel Stevenage just last week and must say is a great location and the hotel looks really nice and modern. On check-in I asked if I could have a room on a quiet side and the receptionist was very helpful, Cathy I think her name is. I had a great night sleep, always loved the Novotel beds and this did not disappoint. Had their grab and go breakfast, which was lovely, fresh croissant and nice coffee. A bonus with this hotel is that they have free parking, just have to register your car with reception. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
Service was good, until
Having stayed at the this hotel in the past I was happy to be sent here again by my work, whilst on a three week training course close by. The first week was very pleasant and quiet with a reduced staffing level, that was able to keep up with demand. However on the second week there was an increase in numbers of customers, something which the hotel clearly couldn't handle. I had previous had no issues during meal times, with all options being avaliable and all course's being brought to the table in good time. However once the numbers in the hotel increase the kitchen started to struggle. An example of this is the fact that just 10 minutes into the service they had run out of the pork option. Apparently all 10 servings had already been placed. Something a little strange as there was only a handful of customers, maybe 4 or 5 sat at tables and as I said we was only 10 minutes into service. The second issues was the 30 minute wait for the dessert to arrive. Now this wouldn't have been an issue if others in the restaurant hadn't been sat, placed their orders and received their mains in the time it apparently takes to hear a crumble up. I understand covid is taking its toll on the service sector at the moment but when the customer numbers rise so should your staffing levels to accommodate. Not the best service unfortunately
Relaxing stay with dogs
Very relaxing stay and made very welcome by the lovely front office staff, room was very clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay again. Hotel is situated right next door to knebworth park and easy access into London.
Only use if there is nowhere else available
Our initial impression of this hotel started with the cigarette ends littering the entrance (see picture) and over 2 days sank even lower. The only part of the stay that was anywhere near acceptable was the hard work of the few staff that were in attendance. The main difference between a 1 star and 4 star hotel is the facilities available and the level of service you can expect. Under the guise of "COVID 19 measures" it seems that someone in the corporate hierarchy has decided to reduce the facilities here to a level below what is acceptable in a 1 star hotel without reducing their prices. I assume there will be a bonus for increased profits. Housekeeping has been abandoned. There is no restaurant or bar and any meals are "take away". "Take away" in this case means "what is the minimum we can provide in a box without actually making the guests physically sick". If the closed restaurant and bar were justified we would probably have accepted it but pubs and restaurants around the Novotel are open and able to provide acceptable levels of distancing and service. All in all an unpleasant stay in a -1 star hotel at 4 star prices
Dirty Rooms
Grubby room various stained items. Definitely need to work harder at the house keeping part. Half a loo roll for a family of 4 and a very filthy kettle 🤢 long walk to reception with small children and pet.
