Lovely hotel. Lovely food. Lovely waiting staff, nothing was too much trouble. Trouble is their billing system. You have to authorise payment at reception on arrival. During our stay we had a bar bill. This was taken off during the night, part of the authorisation payment process. On leaving you pay the bill. Basically paying twice.it is now 15 days since our stay and I still have the pending payments on my account. If I ever go again, I will only use cash.

Great option if staying in the area

Overall, a nice hotel. Stay quite often on business trips. Breakfast is great with wide range of options. Rooms are decent, although perhaps slightly dated. Main restaurant does excellent food. Bar food a little limited. Generally nice place for a work trip.

Best customer service ever

My husband and I have stayed at the Hydro on previous occasions and knew that the service was very good but this time we could see that they have really pulled out all the stops to please their customers. We were given an upgrade which was a delight and Karen the receptionist was very welcoming giving us a goody bag with hot cookies and bottles of water. . I had lost my Apple AirPods Pro on my trip and emailed to ask if there was any chance I had left them there and they had found them! Just delighted. Many thanks to Karen and the honest staff member who found them. 💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We stayed at the Hydro for 4 nights in room 219- fantastics views to the front, spotless facilities, confy big bed. Kate and Karen at the Reception were so helpful, professional and friendly, amazing customer service! F&B staff were also top noch and the food at Kailyard was truly delicious - special mention to the hosts and to our waitress Kayligh, their service was just perfect. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This was an unplanned visit due to a power cut at home following a storm. We were cold and tired when we arrived with our dog. Staff at check-in were very welcoming. They were friendly and helpful. This made all the difference to us. They gave us warm, complimentary cookies and even gave us a “doggy bag” with treats for our furry girl. Such a lovely touch. The rooms were lovely and warm, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The beds were amazing. I would have taken my bed home with me if I could have, it was so comfortable. The room was well kitted out with the usual equipment and tea and coffee sachets. One or two of the lamp shades were a little crooked and in need of replacement and the desk-top was a little bit uneven in places but otherwise, it was a well decorated room with a lovely new looking carpet and comfortable chair. Unfortunately, the hairdryer had a broken filter but the friendly maintenance team replaced the hairdryer promptly and without fuss or inconvenience. The bathroom was ideal with both a bath and shower. There was an endless supply of shampoo, soap etc in dispensers on the wall. (So much more environmentally friendly than individual bottles and packets.) The wonderful towels were large, soft and fluffy. Christmas time is such a lovely time to have a hotel stay. There were beautiful decorations throughout the hotel with the most gorgeous trees. The whole hotel looked spotlessly clean and hand gels were accessible in all areas. The dining room looked a little tired with worn, marked floors and lampshades and blinds that were a little passed their sell by date but the ambience was perfect with a relaxed atmosphere and convivial chatter. Waiting staff were all very attentive and could not have been more friendly. The young woman who served us was true credit to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was so attentive to our needs. I have lots of serious allergies and she liaised with the chef to ensure that I could have a safe meal that I would enjoy, although this meant several trips back and forth to the kitchen. Unfortunately, my vision is not good enough to read badges so I didn’t get her name but she was brilliant. (Petite, brown hair and a lovely manner. In fact, next day, we saw her working in housekeeping. She recognised us and asked how we were getting on.) The other waiters were hard working too and I was very impressed by a young man, with short mid brown hair whose task was to clear up a broken glass. He used a hand brush and shovel and gently swept the whole lot up without creating any clouds of dust, yet managed to capture every sliver. So impressed! The food was served promptly, well presented and tasted delicious. It was cooked to perfection and we enjoyed all three courses. After dinner, we went to the lounge for a night cap. It was fabulous to sit near the fire with the stunning Christmas tree in the corner. Such a comfortable lounge. Bar staff were warm and friendly. I decided to try one of the cocktails listed on the menu. I had a “lollipop” it looked and tasted divine. On our second nights stay, I needed to dine in my room. After a few minor hiccups on the telephone with Calum, I was able to arrange to have my meal and drinks from the bar delivered to my room together. The service was amazing. The food arrived promptly and remained hot, despite there not being enough room on the tray for covers on the food. The young woman who delivered the meal was courteous and I really enjoyed sitting comfortably in my warm room watching tv whilst savouring my meal. We have stayed in many hotels over the years and experienced good and bad accommodation, food and service. This experience was different. The hotel had a lovely, friendly, ambience. It was clean and well cared for, although the restaurant may need some refurbishment soon and the lamp shades and desk top in the bedroom could do with being replaced. Despite the large size of this hotel, every member of staff, that we met was, warm and friendly. They we all helpful and paid attention to detail. We were very impressed by the comradeship of the staff. Despite this being one of a large chain of hotels, this hotel felt like it was being run by a family of staff who all loved their work and supported one another. This was reflected in the care given to guests and for our brief stay was felt wanted and cared for. We give our heartfelt and sincere thank to you all.
