Doesn't care about new customers

Reviewed 31 october, 2021

If I could, the "stay" here would get a 0 star rating! Absolutely shocking behaviour towards customers that have booked with them! I have had a room booked for almost 3 months and received and email today informing me that my stay was cancelled leaving me only 6 days to find accommodation for a trip that had been planned 3 months ago. The excuse I was given was that a bride had booked out all the rooms except mine but NOW decided she need it for hair and makeup, regardless of the room already being booked by someone else. The fact that Hillhead seems to think it's appropriate to just leave people hanging with only a few days notice is appalling. It also appears that many other people have had the same experience with the same excuse of a wedding party... wouldn't surprise me if this whole place was a giant scam! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BOOKING HERE.

Rude, obnoxious host

We have stayed at Hillhead Farm on two previous occasions. We had a lovely stay with no issues. On this occasion however, when we booked we were looking for pet friendly. We added that 2 adults would be staying and the booking took us straight to payment details. We paid and had a booking confirmation. On arrival we were met by a male who informed us where the room was and no other instruction. We unpacked our vehicle which was situated outside the reception. We removed our dogs and their cages and went to our room. My partner then took the dogs for a walk. She became aware of a person within the field adjacent watching her. She returned. Moments later she received an email from "Alasdair" stating. That we did not declare that we were bringing a dog and he saw that we had two. He told us that to leave £10 in the room to pay for the extra cleaning required.(our dogs kept in a cage). We always pay for our dogs where requested so we're a bit confused but prepared to pay anyway. I was slightly confused by the extra cleaning as it was my understanding that to prevent covid spreading every room should have a deep clean prior to new resident arrival. The evidence of dust on the skirting and piled behind the bed would imply this has not been done for sometime. Anyway we relaxed and watched the smallest TV one could provide. We slept quite well until we were abruptly awakened at 745am by building works outside our window. The extremely loud saw continued all morning. We had a confirmation email stating that check out time was 1100hrs. This suited us as we had an appointment at 12. The cleaner attempted to come in at 10am and we called out that we were still there. At 1020 the door was battered. My partner opened it and was met by, who we assume is Alasdair. He bellowed " you are supposed to be out by 10 folks!" We explained that that is not the information they send out and that we didn't appreciate being awakend in building site. No apology but a retort that his neighbour was having a garage built, hardly a building site. Now I do understand that these things do happen. Would it not be polite to make your customers aware.? No doubt after reading this you will be aware that we wouldn't return.

Unprofessional

I had booked here as part of a planned honeymoon trip. The booking was cancelled by Hillhead Farm Lets with 4 days notice because a bride decided she needed the room for hair and makeup. It seems she was entitled to disrupt our plans for her own convenience. If I had been asked if it was possible to rearrange I would probably have done so. However the choice was not offered and I had the inconvenience of trying to find dog friendly accommodation at short notice.

No frills but lovely spacious upstairs room with warm and comfy bed. No toiletries other than bar of soap and handwash. Quiet location .. The little jug of fresh sweet peas smelt wonderful.. Plenty of local walks on doorstep.. Would recommend..

Nope, below average expectations

Cheap yes, easy to find yeas, near a place to eat yes. As far as soundproofing between rooms and flatsctreen tv is concerned, a pinch of salt is required!! Take your binoculars for any tv watching and headphones so you avoid hearing the next room using the bathroom at any o'clock. Our room window didnt close properly so we didnt feel sale. Room also had a strange smell, hygiene needs attention but was generally clean. Other than that our stay was fine, two people £59.
