Brillant stay
Had an excellent one night stay with our young baby at the Locanda. Marco was a fantastic host, and the breakfast was amaaaaazing. Really well-located for wandering around the town and we had the room with the balcony that has beautiful views of the old town and surrounding mountains
Wonderful!
We were greeted by our host Marco on a quiet sunny Sunday afternoon. He was completely charming and made us feel so welcome. Our room was perfect - the shuttered window opened out onto a cobbled square with a church and views of other historic buildings. I felt like I was in a movie! 😀. The room was comfortable and fitted in a minimalist modern style which I thought worked really well with the period building. Our bathroom was fabulous - again with big open out shutter windows. There was a communal area with a kettle, teas and a fridge full of bottles of mineral water along with settees and books to read which we felt was a very generous and stylish touch. Now, we didn’t think it could get any better until we were treated to breakfast in the B&B’s restaurant below our room, served by Marco himself who also owns a little cheese and ham shop next door. We enjoyed fresh fruit (strawberries, kiwis, pears, peaches and plums), a selection of amazing freshly baked cakes and biscuits from his restaurant, ham and cheese from his shop, fresh coffee, bread, yoghurt and ham - all brought to our table. And then, when I thought I couldn’t eat any more, Marco brought us some thin slices of carrot and coconut cake drizzled in white chocolate. Oh my goodness - I need the recipe!! The restaurant also does lunches (see tripadvisor for reviews - we are confident it is every bit as good as all the reviews say!). The restaurant was again minimalist in style which really showed off the period building. We would recommend to anyone looking for comfort with a personal touch, fabulous food and a location to die for (Sulmona is a very pretty town nestled amongst the Abruzzo mountains which an be seen, complete with snow on the tops, all around). Thank you Marco for an absolute treat. We do hope we get to visit you again in the future. With best wishes, Samantha & Gary Knapton
Absolutely the best
This a 4 room laconda, so don’t expect a check in counter or 24/7 room service. Yet you can be sure that this the best place in sulmona. Period. Owned and managed by Marco, you are in for a true Italian experience. Marco is a high class chef who talks about the region’s food with passionate deep knowledge. The restaurant is attached to the hotel and serves breakfast and lunch. The restaurant is 5-Star. Unbelievable food. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. Marco serves breakfast every morning himself. Made to order. Best place ever
Perfect place to stay
We loved our stay at La Locanda. We're a family of 4 and stayed in Sulmona with my brother and his family. Our rooms were very comfortable, super clean. My brother's had a balcony with a lovely view of the small piazza in front of the church called La Tomba. The retreat area was great for the kids to lounge around and play. Breakfast was excellent, home made biscuits and cakes, fruit, croissants, yogurts, hot chocolates - lots of delicious things we all enjoyed. La Locanda had a beautiful homely feel to it, Lucia, Giacomo and Marco and their families were lovely, friendly, very welcoming, couldn't do more for you, really made sure our stay was comfortable. And La Locanda is in a perfect location, in the heart of Sulmona, a stones throw from the main piazza, the Corso, great gelato, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, churches. La Locanda's deli is amazing - so many delicious foods. We'd stay there again.
