My fourth time in this hotel. It went well, and I'll be back, but there were a couple of hiccups this time. One morning I went down to get some oatmeal from the snack bar for breakfast. No one was there. Had to wait several minutes for someone to show up. Sunday morning the internet was unusable. Other than this, everything was fine. The rooms are very well appointed, and the location is excellent.

I loved my stay at this historic hotel. The location is perfect and I was able to walk to all attractions downtown and in the theatre district. Staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. This will definitely be the first place I check for availability for any future trips to Chi-town.
An ‘Iconically’ Poor Experience

We booked this hotel as part of a British Airways holiday package and I am shocked that BA would put their name to this hotel. Some of the reviews on TripAdvisor are some way from our experience during our 5 day stay. The architecture of the outside and inside of the building are stunning. However, this architectural/historical experience actually starts to impact very negatively on your stay. The elevators are an utter disgrace - constantly broken (one or the other or, as we were checking out with 6 cases, both) and this led to consistently long waits to get from our room on the 10th floor to street level. This might sound like a small issue but - trust me - up to 5 minute waits every time you want to go up or down is highly frustrating. The stairs are also not an option - from the tenth floor, we had to use some of the service stairs which was not a pleasant experience. Staying on the lifts, the hotel staff do not have a service lift and so are constantly stopping the lift at various floors as you attempt to go down. On one occasion, having waited over 5 minutes for a lift with a member of staff, he had the audacity to try and tell us to wait as he was using the lift to go up when we were wanting to go down. This was the height of rudeness and lacked professionalism. The rooms are a very mixed bag - this is NOT a luxury or 4 star hotel and is in serious need of a revamp. The shower was dreadful and had about as much water power as a dripping tap. The air con unit as filthy (see photo) and there were various other issues with elements of the room being in real need of an update. On the plus side, the beds were comfy and housekeeping was of a good standard. Reception/Front of House staff were very unwelcoming, not at all friendly and were dressed so casually that it was often hard to tell who was actually working there. No concierge/door staff/porters so we had to haul luggage through old fashioned, heavy doors with no help at all. Location is good - area is ok, but we did see men selling drugs in the next door doorway and a man urinating in the side entrance as we tried to enter the hotel. At no point were we asked whether our stay was okay - probably for a reason - and there was a real sense of nobody really bothering about the comfort or welfare of guests. Have a look at the attached photos and don’t be fooled by some positive reviews based on experiences that for us were not the norm. There are far, far better options in Chicago. This hotel chain is trying to build a brand on quirkiness but this doesn’t make a good stay.
Fabulous as always

This is not my first stay at Elise nor my last! It’s my favorite hotel in Chicago. Darnell and staff are wonderful and very accommodating each time. The only regret is the understaffing at the Atwood. So glad we were able to annoy a snack and drink there on one occasion.

We always love our stay at this hotel! It’s close to Christkindlmarket and Macy’s is right across the street! Walking distance to the Bean and Millennium Park. Several good dining options nearby ,also many shopping options as well. Also love the real key you use to open your room door. Fast Wi-Fi, an exercise room and the Atwood Restaurant in the hotel has great food!
