Christmas in Bavaria

In a word...don't. The Hotel owners are very proud of their hotel - we were not impressed. Previous reviews wrote of 'tired' and needs a refit etc. We agree. The owner is very polite, and charming - but he runs it very formulaic - there isn't any flexibility - and frankly he himself needs to stay in a chain hotel - to drag him out of his complacency, and learn more about customer service There isn't a bar lounge, to relax in - but plenty of dining rooms...without an ounce of atmosphere. You can have two beers, three wines no tonic with your gin, no crisps, no nuts etc - very thin drinks selection. He needs to cater for different nationalities, not just German. We were in a Leger tour for Christmas - so many our our fellow visitors said it was the worst holiday resort they'd ever had with Leger. Christmas Day afternoon was a complete disappointment. In a room of twenty - with three choices only on the menue (not complex, then), we waited an hour an half for a 'snack - shnitzel' lunch - to be told they'd forgotten our order. An evening music/dance night was arranged Boxing Day evening - and that should really have been organised for Christmas Day evening. If it wasn't for our Leger tour operators - who really worked hard for us all, it would have been very unsatisfactory. WiFi? Couldn't pick up any signal at all.

Village type family hotel nothing grand or posh. Room my wife and I had was a bit on the small side but adequate but for 4 nights it was not what we are used to. Minus 4and6 outside with deep snow our room was warm and cosy. Breakfast was buffet style but rolls were fresh every day with cheese and hams, cereal, fruits and juices, hot coffee jugs. Dinner was mainly pork, fish for non pork eaters. Not much veg and a few boiled spuds with herb, one night we had burger type meat. Small cubicle shower and toilet in same room which was ok. Owner laid on a candle lit walk for guests around the village with a Mulled wine finish. The next evening was a music and dance type get together which was great.
Not the best christmas i have had actually the worst

It was a leger holiday it was definitely not the place for Christmas as it didn't cater for the British it needed an update as it was very tired looking uncomfortable beds food was very poor when I have been to Germany before I have always had good food and well cooked the hotel didn't have a lounge area to sit in that you could sit and chat with other guests badly stocked bar after all it was Christmas you will be alright if you like basic wine or beer my husband is a whisky drinker and they didn't have any or even tonic to go with gin not that I saw the gin they said they had some but I cannot drink it neat , all the menus were in German if they are going to cater for the British it needs to have English translation not only in the menu but also in the facility's that are offered it had a list of treatments in the room that were available but as I cannot read German and the staff do not speak English you didn't know what was available
In need of some TLC

Recently stayed at the Hotel -------- on a coach holiday. I can honestly say this was one of the worst I have stayed in and believe me I have stayed in some “budget” hotels in my time. Looking at the website I thought it was quite nice, don’t believe all you see, I’m sure some rooms are OK. My room and those of several of my travelling companions were awful, room and shower very old (but clean), in complete need of a make over to bring it up to a half decent standard. This was a single room with no Wi-Fi, no Coffee or Tea making facilities, a 15/17-inch old fashioned CRT TV, a bathroom so small as to be awkward to use. The hot water from the tap was never more than tepid. The food was below par every day with the exception of breakfast. At dinner, on our table there were always one or more people every night that left most of the food as it was so badly cooked. One of the waitresses unfortunately knocked over a glass of beer whilst lighting a candle. The beer shot across the table cloth and into the lap of my friend. No apology was offered (I think she was extremely embarrassed and hastily disappeared) and we had to clear up the mess ourselves. Guess what, the following morning the damp stained tablecloth had NOT been changed………. There was no communal comfortable seating for the guest to get together, even around the bar area you had to buy your drink and either stand or try and find a table to sit at, which was frowned upon by the staff as it had been laid up for the following morning. If you are planning on being out all day and just using this hotel for bed and breakfast you might be OK. I suggest viewing your room before paying if you can.
A Long overdue review !

I stayed here for 4 nights over Christmas 2018 as part of a coach trip of 26. Our initial excitement and anticipation waned somewhat during the 4 nights but the location made it for me. The Hotel itself is charming on the outside but..... still a bit tired on the inside, there's not much wrong it's just a bit dated but it is a small family run hotel so spending 10s if not 100s of thousand of euros to update décor, beds and TVs won't change the feel of the Hotel too much. The Hotel is cosy and cramped in some places with the reception and bar area being most noticeable, there are plenty of seating areas but most of them feel like dinning rooms which I guess they are. As a party of 26 we were surprised at how little we were embraced as foreign nationals, almost everything is in German and apart from the owner there seemed to be very little spoken or written English....it at least made the evening dinner menus an interesting talking point. Rarely did the actual food meet the expectations but most of it was edible; although one of our party did have an omelette that was more like a piece of coloured cardboard. Staff seemed more intent on the delivery rather than rectifying any small issues we had. Evening meals usually consisted of salad, soup, main and a dessert. Breakfast was a more limited buffet continental affair. Thurmansbang and this hotel in particular have very little in terms of internet reviews, I read what reviews were here before I went so had a reasonable idea of expectations. Its been a few years since I physically had to interact with a CRT and although CNN international was on in the room next door.....Grrrr...... I had to make do with Tom and Jerry or Beverly Hills cop..... in German :-) but I didn't come here to watch TV. I came for a Traditional German Christmas in the Bavarian Forest and for me it was a much welcome contrast to the evermore commercial British Christmas. Thurmansbang is a small village up in the hills, in the centre of Thurmansbang there is a church with a mini supermarket next door and a restaurant or two. There is also a small Garage with the obligatory shop on the outskirts.
