My wife and I arranged a long weekend in Malta.
On arrival we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was served in a lovely, intimate room with a good selection of continental style and a la carte menu. This hotel was perfectly placed in the heart of Valletta right in front of Carmelita Church.

I'm writing this about to spend my first night in suite 2 at Casa Ellul and so far it's been way off expectation (other than the staff who to be fair try to do as much as possible to help). Baring in mind it's only been a few hours (and I'm for four nights), the fridge is broken (very noisy when turned on, so the solution has been to just turn it off).. the TV doesn't have enough of a connection to actually show or play any of it's advertised programmes and films.. There is a gap down the middle of the bedroom door (main point of entry) with a light on the other side that according to the receptionist and as far as I can see has no off switch (so the bedroom has light into it at night). I've also had to change both my pillows as they were plastic and dirty (of which the receptionist had no idea why they were there in the first place)... I'm writing this to warn others as there only seems to be glowing reviews (and this is reflected by friends that live here too).. yet I'm finding my experience and room to be way off this.. I fear it could be suite 2 itself (hence using the room number in the title to ensure others avoid it).. and it doesn't mention this on the website but there is basically no natural light into the room during the day as its only window faces a vertical courtyard- no windows facing out of the building.

Really great one-night stay in Suite 8 whilst on a trip in Malta. The staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the jacuzzi was a great addition.
We rang down for some ice and the ironing service, and the team were only too happy to oblige.
Our only gripe was that we drank only 2 bottles of coke in the paid-for mini bar during the afternoon. When we came back in the evening after dinner, we asked for a couple more bottles of coke or diet coke to take back up to the room, and some ice. Only to be told there were no soft drinks on the premises, and there was now no ice either. I asked if any stores were open locally to restock ourselves, but was told they were all shut.
I raised this with the front desk again on check-out, and it seemed that this was the policy. I asked if it was only 2x bottles of coke in the mini bar per stay, and that seemed to be the case.
I cant recall ever staying in a boutique hotel previously where it was unable to re-stock a minibar during someone's stay. And runs out of ice too.
A missed revenue-generating opportunity there also.
Exceptional breakfast in the city

This place is amazing. The rooms are beautiful, the beds are comfortable, the staff are lovely, great location and an above average breakfast. Very good coffee and loved the eggs Benedict. I loved my stay and will definitely be back!
