Not your mother’s Fairmont

The Pacific Rim is Vancouver's sexy sibling of the Vancouver Fairmont family. (I can hear mother tut-tutting disapproval from her Georgia street perch.) From the design - the artwork - the raw bar - Botany restaurant - the Taschen library - the high tech-ish rooms - the view - everything feels sleek and modern. But it is not uncomfortable some many modern hotels are. Pacific Rim has adjusted to covid much better than some local hotels. (I'm looking at you, Pan Pacific.) The gym is 24 hours - gold floor service is updated to reflect safety. (Really appreciated the gold floor lounge where you pick your meal from a menu, and it is prepared fresh.) Fortunately, the Fairmont service remains outstanding - a trait common across the brand. A shout out to Tony - Gold Floor - who going the extra mile often includes two extra miles.
OUTSTANDING hotel !

We stayed at the Fairmont Pacific Rim for a week during the holidays. Right when you enter the hotel, you feel good and amazed ! PROS : - The SERVICE in unlike any other ! From the doorman, to the front desk, to the waitresses at the lobby bar, everyone is so charming, genuine, friendly and efficient ! The check in was quick and easy, so was the check out - The room is simply amazing. We highly suggest having the harbour view. Housekeeping can come up to 3 times a day if you let them ! - Enforcing covid rules : we actually appreciated the hotel for that. They will ask you for your vaccination card at restaurants and if you don't wear your mask in the lobby, they will also tell you, which we greatly appreciated. - The pool and hot tubs on the 6th floor were super warm (even in December) - You HAVE to book a spa appointment. It was the best massage we've had in a while. Heating table, different lotions, choice of smell, it was simply amazing - The food at the lobby bar (Raw Bar) is delicious ! I highly suggest the Gesha cocktail as well. CONS : - During the holidays, they had a little bit of difficulty managing the booking system for the lobby bar. From the 30th to the 2nd, you had to have a reservation. Then, they wouldn't let you take a reservation, which was confusing. - You don't have free wifi in the room. We are Canadians, so our usual plan worked, but for foreign travelers, for the price of this hotel, I think wifi should be included. Special mentions to Gina (front desk) and Hana (lobby bar) who made our trip wonderful and unique. We will definitely go back !

Beautiful, clean, comfortable room and fabulous view (Partial harbour view king). Professional staff. Amazing food at the Lobby Lounge and in-room dining. I have stayed at many downtown Vancouver hotels and this is the nicest. It is not just a hotel stay, but a fabulous experience!
A hotel of “no”; staff don’t go the extra mile; over-rated hotel - service is just cold

From booking, pre-check in, check in, during the stay, we have been bombarded with “no” every which way. It’s not how a top rated hotel should be. Let’s put it this way: Lobby - 5 stars Ambience/atmosphere of hotel: 5 stars Rooms: 4.5 stars (nice but not at par with the best) Service: 2 stars The staff at the hotel is so incredibly unhelpful (at reception and elsewhere, except valet which was very good) that it feels like any requests that are out of ordinary should not be asked. They basically “throw the book at you” for everything that you ask for that is non standard: late check out? “Can’t tell you now. Subject to availability” Extra bed? “No, fire hazard”. I mean they don’t even bother checking or looking, just shrug their shoulders and make it feel like you shouldn’t even have asked. It’s not even the results which we can understand what sometimes can or cannot be done. It’s the “I don’t bother trying” attitude. Staying in a suite that costs more than pretty much all other hotels in Vancouver gave us nothing more than a standard experience with cold and unhelpful service. It was between this hotel and Rosewood, or maybe Loden. We just chose wrong. Btw, it wasn’t like anything was “bad”, just cold and unhelpful. But this means that we would definitely not return. And I highly recommend travelers looking for higher service levels to avoid coming to Fairmont. 2-3 star service hidden in a 5 star shell.
Special stay for my mother

My sister and I arranged for a staycation for my mother, who happened to be attending a wedding reception at the hotel on the same day. Because we wanted to opportunistically make this a special stay for my mom to celebrate her birthday in advance, I contacted the hotel to help ensure everything is perfect for her. The communications with the Guest Relations Team and the Concierge Team was fantastic. Special shout-outs to Akash, Younghye, and Carina. All my requests were met and more! They truly went above and beyond making sure that this was a perfect stay for my mother, who has really really high standards. When I made these requests, my assumption was that since Fairmont is a huge chain, everything would be super commercialized and the staff really wouldn't care that much. However, I was proven way wrong. Not only was everyone super warm, the service was definitely 5 stars!! My mother also raved about the food at the wedding reception! Upon looking at their events package, it makes me want to book it for her birthday next year in which we plan to have a larger gathering!! Thank you to the Fairmont Pacific Rim team for making this a great stay. This was in many ways more important to me than to my mom because I wanted to ensure EVERYTHING was well taken care of. And it was!! Warm regards and Happy New Year to the team!
