10/10 would recommend 🤍

My family and I had the pleasure of staying here December 14-21 and what a great experience! We stayed in the family bungalows which were amazing, the only downside ours was a bit of a hike to the main hotel area, but not the end of the world. The staff was ABSOLUTELY amazing, so kind and helpful, they truly made the stay amazing. They wore masks and sanitized, they made our experience so safe. I do feel like Europeans were not so much a fan of the mask mandate in the hotel, but it never bothered us once and we just went about our day. The food was great, we never went hungry, we only wish we had discovered the beach burger shack earlier in our stay because that was one of the best parts!!!! A La Carter’s were delicious and there was always something for even the pickiest eaters in our group to fill up on at every meal. The pool was fantastic but the beach was hands down the best part of our stay, it was STUNNING! 10/10 (ok minus the sand fleas that destroyed my legs but I can overlook that!). We rented a mini catamaran from the beach and took advantage of the wonderful snorkelling just off the shoreline. It was something else. We are planning another trip back next month in February and there isn’t another place I would stay. Sol Palmeras were coming back for you! See you soon!!!

Don’t go if you are afraid of Covid-19

We were there for 10 days with our 2 daughters in a family bungalow. The first thing to know about the hotel is that more than 80% of the clientele are russians and are not used to follow covid preventative measures. Most don’t wear masks or keep distance within installations and very few wash their hands when entering restaurants. The hotel staff does not bother too much in asking them to correct their behavior. You see clients coughing in their hands without masks in public areas and at the restaurants and then touching tables, chairs, bar, that are not systematically disinfected. the measures promoted by Melia are not put into Force. So be ready to face this if you travel during the pandemic. Now, about our appreciation, aside from Covid measures. The bungalow 122 was spacious, convenient, and very well located near the beach and all facilities, even if a bit outdated. We never missed hot water and it was well cleaned every day. The food at the buffet is good. But very repetitive. The waiting time to get eggs and omelets is very very long. Réservation based restaurants are very basic if you are used to travel to 4 stars hôtels in Mexico or Dominican Republic. The service is usually good but the menu and food are not to a 4 star level. Don’t bother going to the italian restaurant. It is not italian. The beach was beautiful and very clean. We spent all our days there. Lifeguards ensure safety. We were lucky to have calm days where the water was flat and turquoise as much as wi dy days where we enjoyed body surfing in the waves. Entertainment at the beach was well done! The pool was also very well maintained. During the evening, the live entertainment at the lobby bar was great. The shows and different parties were not so great. Pretty boring. And, unfortunately, it seemed covid didn’t exist with no measures whatsoever during the evenings in general at the lobby bar or during entertainment. Overall, it was an ok experience. We were not disappointed with our trip. But were not impressed by anything. We don’t recommend you to book your vacation here if you are concerned with Covid measures being followed.

My second trip to Varadero

I have visited the Sol Palmeras hotel several times and am ready to return again. I liked the location, the beach is amazing and clean. The hotel is located in a very beautiful place and surprises with its beauty. The territory is huge, you can walk everywhere and enjoy beautiful views. Also, the photos in this place are great. The service is also good enough. Animation is interesting, but more exciting evening animation. Discos are always fun, the music is fiery and you can dance a lot. I would like to express my gratitude to the hotel Staff for the shown service and work. I would also like to thank the animators (especially Carlos), who always cheer up, play sports with clients and do a great job. Thank you Sol Palmeras for a wonderful holiday at your hotel in Cuba.

Cuban Christmas

Most important: don't change your money into pesos. Take some USD $1 and $5 Cdn for tipping. Make sure your bills are in excellent condition or they won't take them. This was our 2nd time staying here. We thought this would be a great resort for our adult children (23,20 and 18) and us to celebrate Christmas and we were not disappointed. Because of Covid, the resort was maybe half full so not everything was open. We missed the outside breakfast buffet and the small snack shack out in the middle of the bungalows (best coffee) aa they were closed due to minimum capacity. We did discover the outside terrace off the main bar this trip and spent every morning out there drinking coffee and every evening having drinks. I think it's actually for smokers but because there weren't many guests we weren't overwhelmed by smoke. We ate in the buffet for breakfast and some dinners. Did all the A La Carte restaurants and enjoyed them all. General concensus was the Chinese and Latino were the best. They did all excellent job with the Christmas Eve celebrations. Live music and shows out by the pool. Great time was had by all. We had 2 bungalows; one for us and one for our kids. They were fairly close together and because there were so few ppl at the resort we were in Zone 1. Last visit we were in Zone 5 which is a bit of a hike to the hotel. We love the bungalows. Its one of the main reasons we came back with back. They are spacious and clean. We just love the set up. So much better than being in a high-rise building. There is lots to do at this resort. There is beach volleyball but there is also a hard court by the pool where they have volleyball and basketball games. Also a decent pool table. A shout out to the entertainment staff and "Super Carlos"who went above and beyond keeping us and our kids entertained. Carlos is a real asset to this resort. He was always around keeping ppl involved and talking to everyone. It's seemed like he was there 24/7. One of the hardest working guys I have met. Downside is wifi is only available in the hotel area and not in the bungalows or at the beach. We try to disconnect during our holidays anyway so not a deal breaker. Another great visit to the Sol Palmeras. Thanks to all the staff for making our Cuban Christmas one of the best ever

We had a very good time

Reviewed 5 january, 2022

Our trip this time of COVID was a concern until we touch land. The warm and cool environment we found was great and people as usual very helpful and kind. Varadero did it again, nice Hotel, nice beach, food with a good variety considering the circumstances of panic around the world and the lac of supplies even in first world countries, but the Sol Palmeras did it very well. We had nights at the beach dancing with the music beside the ocean and with bands the perform every night. Check in fast as well as check out. After in Havana we had the opportunity of visiting another nice Hotel the Packard in old Havana, what a view and modern feeling. We have ever hesitate in visiting Cuba every time we go is something new but people remain the same nice and calm with a humor characteristic that break all your worries. Great time for sure.
