Great Resort and will return after the Pandemic Ends
Reviewed 18 january, 2022
I enjoyed this resort and will return, but not until the pandemic is over. I stayed for 7 days with my Mom in a Swim-out Room with Star Prestige which was 100% worth the money, especially during the pandemic. I love that Iberostar is committed to better oceans have have gone far in reducing single use plastics. The Room: We had a double swim-out room - 10034. The room had 2 beds and you could walk out into the star prestige pool, which is the pool that wraps around the building on the right in all the photos. It's nice to have, but if you are on the "ocean" facing side it's cold and unusable during the day, request the side facing the pool if you want sun all day. The room needs to be refreshed, after years of rain/humidity the bathroom door wasn't budging to open or close, we had maintenance fix it. The room needs to be repainted, there are several marks on the walls and it's showing it's age. Hopefully when they refresh they do something with the window in the bathroom, you can see someone in the shower/toilet clearly. We hung up a towel, but still, it was a nuisance. I think in the winter time they could use a few more linens for the beds. The Resort: The resort is larger than it appears in photos, but it wasn't too hard to make it across the resort in less than 5 minutes. There are parts of the resort completely unused due to the pandemic, everyone seems to be in the main building and two around the star prestige pool. Elevators all work, and that's usually a concern in Cuba, but I never had an issue, but they are slow. Panoramic Restaurant Seriously, pay the extra and get Star Prestige, this restaurant will be open to you for all three meals, and its where we eat at the most. I'm a very nervous person around COVID and we never had a worry here, the main buffet - I'll get at below. The view is breathtaking and you can sit in the swings and watch the ocean. We spent a ton of time up here. The staff in the restaurant and the bar are THE BEST! We honestly loved speaking with them daily. The Buffet Ok, I'm sure the buffet would be great, if not for the pandemic. The food seems OK, but it was the guests that presented the biggest issue. They have changed food handling to where the staff is putting food on your plate, but many guest were inpatient and they would butt in and put their hands on the food/utensils, etc. Many guests would not properly wear their masks, even when the staff would ask them to, or they would just wear it around their chins and be rude to the staff. There was one guest that picked a piece of chicken with his bare hands off the grill and ate it while standing over the grill. The other Guests. Wearing masks has been a huge issue world wide, and it didn't surprise me it would be an issue at the resort, it's more the absolute lack of care guests had for the rules and staff. There were several fights in elevators about it and I was even harassed by several guests (not Canadian or British) when I asked people to put on their masks. It's 100% NOT the staff's fault, they are doing everything they can, it's just some guests are very ignorant and blatantly disregard the country's health and safety requirements. The Staff If you want a good experience with staff be nice and follow the rules, they will treat you so well! If you want a great experience Tip well, often, and thank them, a thank you alone will really get you ahead at this resort and most. They really tried to help us out as much as they could, and the rep for Star Prestige (I'm so sorry I can't recall her name, but the nicest person ever!) checked in on us almost daily to make sure we had what we needed. Some tips - Bring small Canadian, US or Euros, you can avoid buying CUC because you have to spend it before you leave. Bring face cloths, they don't have any, also, I'd bring a beach towel, theirs are thin like most resorts, it's also helpful just to have extra towels. If we are still in a pandemic when you go, make sure you wear a mask when you talk to staff and follow the rules, don't be a an ignorant traveller. I will be back, the trip was great, and I can't wait to come back with more family and friends. I have been recommending this resort to everyone I talk to!
Beautiful White Sands of Varadero

At first look, the hotel front was not the most impressive. But, the closer you get to the entrance, the more you see how enjoyable your stay is going to be. The hotel greets you with an open-air lobby. You see the palm trees, the resting deck where all events are happening, and the central bar. The entrance then leads you to the beautiful, tri-coloured water of the Atlantic Ocean. Our room faced the ocean, and the outdoor stage was on the 5th floor of the main complex. It was neat and standard for an all-inclusive hotel. There was nothing unexpected at this hotel. Here, you will find the buffet and a la carte restaurants, a variety of adult and kid pools, and several bars. You will find lounging sun chairs by the pools, some in the water, some in the sun, and others under gazebos. The main pool opens to the collection and the surface so that you can sip on your mojito right in the water. And further down is the beach. Check out the full post at discovercuba.ca.

I stayed at the Iberostar Bella Vista on Jan 2-9 and I had a great time. This is the type of hotel that I love: everything is compact and at reach. You don't need to walk miles to get to your room, buffet, restaurants, snack bar, pool or the beach. Yet, it doesn't feel too cramped either. The staff is really great. From reception, to the room maids and wait staff, they will take care of you and fix any issue in a timely manner. The hotel has free wifi and it even works at the beach. The beach is beautiful and clean and there is no fighting for lounge chairs, although, as usual, selfish people do leave an item on them and leave for hours. I wish all-inclusive hotels would find a solution against this. I had booked a pool-view room and with that faced the pool and ocean. There are elevators and stairs throughout. I only tried the Cuban à la Carte as a traveled solo and went for the lobster for an extra $30-35. Delicious! I am probably forgetting to mention more but overall, I had a great and relaxing week and will definitely return to that hotel on my next visit to Varadero.
