Dirty horrible staff

This place is dirty as hell, stay away. All they want is your money. Be careful when walking around the property, it is unsafe you can be robed. Bed had bugs, shower valve was also broken, staff was rude.
Good hotel but be careful of the upgrades

The hotel is nice but it's a little smaller than I'm accustomed to. A significant portion was closd since I went in December of 2020 so of course pandemic restrictions were the impacting factors. Level upgrade - the Level staff is INCREDIBLE. No other words. They're just fantastic. However, watch out. I upgraded with the intention of using the adult only area which was advertised as part of the Level experience yet the adult only area is only part of a Tier 2 the Level upgrade which isn't made clear on any website. So I paid extra without getting what I had actually wanted from the upgrade. If you're looking for a party experience, this isn't the hotel. If you're looking for a a quieter experience catered to middle aged and older couples, this is a great choice.
Great resort- some details to know about Cuba for Canadians and COVID
Reviewed 5 january, 2022
3rd time to Varadero. Best resort thus far (loved the level). Staff off the charts kind and friendly, clean and attractive facility. Was quite- most hotels have just opened up after 2 years closed. This one was fully stocked with supplies (at Cuba levels). Lots of nice Russian people to meet- Cuba is now their favorite place to travel. Buffet was normal for Cuba. Onsite restaurants were the better choice. Few things to know- beach is big, with lots of chairs and shade. First part of the beach is a reef. Great if you like to snorkel (ok- for free). You'll need your own gear. Walk 2-5 minutes and your in white sand for about .5 KM. You can pay $20 per person and head out on the beach catamaran to snorkel for an hour. Well worth it- easy and some fish to see. Gear supplied. Golf you get 3 rounds if you stay at the level (you pay club rental and cart $90 USD). Highly suggest you upgrade to the level. Private food, nicer rooms, private bar. FYI- doesn't appear they are enforcing the +16 age at the level as the hotel is so quiet. Kids on the floor, which was AOK by me. Covid stuff for Cnds- stuff I could not find out before I went. Going in- you just need a double vax certification. You could be spot checked for a test at the Varadero airport- didn't see much of that. Just lots of temp checks Leaving- you get a PCR test at a medical center. We had one attached to our hotel. Do it 3 days before. Takes 1-2 days to get it back. Was simple. You click an app they give you: Pay $30 USD- head to the med center for the test. The test goes back to that center/doctor. You need to bug them- they do not find you. Negative- all good, go home. Enter into the Cantravel app for customs. They will ask for your negative test at the airport check in/Veradero. IF POSITIVE--- I could not find anybody in Cuba who would give me a straight answer. Employees just said they do not know- just as a tourist you would be very, very, very well looked after. We found out from some people we met from Cnd what happens: So an ambulance picks you up. You are transported to a sunfish resort/resort turned covid center. You are quarantined to your room, well looked after. They will test you every day or two- until your negative. Suggest you get travel insurance so if you stay longer- it's covered under insurance. FYI--people in Cuba are serious about Covid. Its mandatory to wear masks: EVERYWHERE in public. Lots of K95's. They don't force tourists- yet you'd stand out without wearing one in markets and restaurants. We had a great time, we'd head back soon. FYI-- If you think there is a shortage of stuff in Cnd...Cuba has less than less of stuff. Their stores are empty. Anything you'd bring, share or leave behind- is so appreciated by locals. They all want Cnd or USD currency. They have little interest in their currency. What you exchange in Cuba- CAN NOT BE EXCHANGED BACK. I.E. I would not recommending exchanging much if any.

The Good: Big resort, amazing beach, clean sand and crystal clear warm water. Specious rooms, very clean (didn't like the fancy light switches, horrible to operate!). Ver helpful staff everywhere. The Bad: Food, absolutely disappointing. Dull, bland, no taste what so ever, I don't know why they hate spices because they don't use it ? They should employ a Turkish chef to show them how to cook. The Ugly: Internet is a joke, virtually doesn't exist. It disconnects after to 3 to 5 mins and you have to keep logging in manually wiry username and password! You can't get local sim card, too expensive. Shops on premises are super expensive, basically designed to rip you off. Suggestions : 1. Utilize spices in food, it helps people eating it. 2. Please put changing cabins on the beach so guests can change their swimming gears.
Loving it here!
