Great to be by the beach. Here " You get for what you pay."

Unfortunately, have been spoiled by other hotels. The experience here is inferior compared to most other hotels. If you want a much better quality stay, then you need to spend more money elsewhere for a different property and you will have a vastly better experience. Truly disappointed with the stay.
There was entertainment in the evening by the pool and the performers really tried their best to entertain the guests and make it an enjoyable experience. Some of the servers in the restaurant are very pleasant, and the cooks are quite nice. You have to try really hard to get some of the servers to smile and the people at the bar. Not quite sure why this is They can be nice one day and cool another I found this rather frustrating for the most part and am not sure why this is the case. Perhaps this may be due to a language barrier. The front door staff/ security men in suits are very nice and amiable, and most of the front desk staff are pleasant enough. The men working at the beach placing your sun chairs are very pleasant and are watching out for your general security. Be kind to them and remember to tip them something. They do not make much, so don't be a cheapskate, and tip them accordingly. Remember, they do not have to do anything for you and if they do, tip as a courtesy. It won't cost you much and you will be really helping them out.
The coffee at the bar is very good. Great café con leche (milk) and cappucino's. Some people had nice looking cocktails. At the beach bar, I bought a bottle of better Cuban rum, and added it to the frozen pina colada or lime mixer to make great cocktails. If you want beer, you have to leave the beach area, walk all the way back to the main hotel, across the street and then come back, so you probably won't be drinking beer at the beach. The small pool area is behind the main hotel and there is no view of the beach... Generally a rather run down hotel, with rooms especially in the Sotavento side needing lots of upgrades.
The single dining room area is rather nice, and you get either paper napkins or cloth napkins. The staff are regularly cleaning off the tables, and kept the dining area quite tidy and oorganized. If you want drinks with your meal, better to get up and ask them, because often they do not ask you, so better not to be disappointed by sitting and waiting for them to come to you. I am not sure why some of the reviews are so glowing. This is really not the case.
It is an inexpensive budget hotel period. Acuazul rooms seem to be basic but clean, and the Sotavento rooms not so. My room in the Sotavento was rather disgusting and this is what unfortunately, put me off the whole experience. I inspected under my bed when I left and was disgusted by the amount of dust and debris.
There was no safe in the room at the Sotavento section. I specifically asked if there was a safe in the room or if the hotel had any rooms with safe's (caja de seguridad) and was told there were not. However, one of the guests later told me they had a safe in their room, which was in the Acuazul section.
I brought my own bedding and pillow and this was an excellent decision. I ended up giving the bedding at the end of my stay.
Very Humble, 60's well maintained boutique ranch style villa/ Excellent-Quality/Price

Not for the everyone. True. and if not for you better know the truth. Please check yourself and your attitude out. This properties grounds are well maintained. See we pay so little that it barely leaves profit for them to eat. We have to fairly recognise that the are isolated and doing as best with what is available. I always complement my trips to Islazul with a Bubba ( refillable non bacterial stainless steel mug ) , a flashlight, a summer sleeping bag with my fav. pillow in my suitcase. It fits and it's worth it. Skin so soft and a bottle of Raid. That all - the rest is PERFECT :) what do you expect? They do their best with what they have, enjoy it for what it is and be kind. Very Humble, 60's well maintained boutique ranch style villa. Loved it.
Not that bad for the $$

Stayed at Villa Sotavento Jan 29- Feb 6.The villa was at the end of 13th street there were three rooms on the main floor and two on the second floor. There was a full kitchen , and living room area with couches and dinette set and tv. The beach bar was right beside my Villa ,the Awesome 5star beach was 50ft from me. The room was simple 2 brand new beds , TV, air conditioner that worked well. There are no telephones or fridges in the room , but the same goes for the main hotel Acuazul. The buffet is smaller but is the same at any resort in Cuba. The front desk staff were great and the maid did an excellent job (leave a tip and you get the excellent service.) The Villas are being painted and repaired but in Cuba things move on 'Cuban Time" This is my 5th visit to Varadero and my 7th visit to Cuba. For the price this resort was fine. Cuba is Cuba any one who has been down more than once knows what to expect. The people are awesome and the beach is a 5 star.
Awful Accommodation A little better than Camping

This is the worst vacation I've had in Cuba. The flight was delayed by four hours. Instead of arriving around 7 pm, we arrived at the hotel past midnight. There was no food available, just drinks at the 24 hour lobby bar. The front-desk clerk was pleasant and helped me promptly and gave me room 5 in house number 428 Camino del Mar.
The house is freshly painted. Room 5 is up two flights of stairs.
The meals are taken at the main Hotel Acuazul about a 5 minute walk from the house. Any business concerning accomodations are taken care of at Hotel Acuazul front-desk
Here is a description:

2. There was no night-table lamp and a light was out in the room.
3. The safe had no lock. Useless!
4. There was no telephone in the room.
5. The television cable was disconnected, and even after I connected it myself (because after reporting it broken no one came to fix it), the reception was poor, the image had a lot of interference, ie; snow, and poor audio.
6. The toilet had no toilet seat and didn't flush. I had to flush by using a small garbage can as a bucket and dumping buckets full of water in the toilet bowl.
7. There was no shower curtain. After showering the bathroom floor was all wet.
8. For towels, I had four hand towels that were not replaced for the whole stay.

el hotel no nos convenció, fuimos fijándonos en el precio que es muy económico, pero no cubrió nuestras expectativas. es muy sencillo. lo mejor que tiene es su personal que si son muy amables. Pero no regresaremos
