Portavescovo as good as ever
Very welcoming and friendly hotel. Management and all staff work very hard to make a visit as enjoyable as possible for guests. Excellent facilities for a 3*** hotel. Everything clean, comfortable, works really well for a skiing trip. Food is plentiful, varied and consistently good quality. Great location, close to ski lifts and village centre. Very good spa facilities and small swimming pool. One large quieter lounge bar, with music each evening. One smaller and lively Stube, which serves snacks and a good range of drinks. Oh and it just happens to be in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Fantastic! Hope to return for 5th visit soon.
Very welcoming
We were a large group and we stayed in the Hotel Portavescovo for a week. It is only a few minutes' walk from the bottom of the Burz lift; a bit further to the cable cars, but you can get to them easily via the Burz lift and Arabba Fly. And you can ski back to a few yards from the ski room entrance. It's very comfortable, with decent-sized rooms. Many have only a shower but some have baths. I would have liked some drawers as well as hanging space and shelves. The food was good. Breakfast is a buffet, and dinner always starts with a salad and hors d'oeuvres buffet. The only, very minor, niggle was that when the buffet was busy it was awkward to get past it if your table was on the other side of the room. And the breakfast orange juice was from a machine and a bit watery on occasion. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful. There's a modest-sized swimming pool, and a gym, sauna, steam room and wellness suite, and three bars, one of which has loud muzak and another of which sometimes has a pianist of karaoke. The third was more of a cafe or bistro but it wasn't open during our stay as it was still low season.
Best Staff!
This is a simple hotel tucked away at the edge of the mountains just yards away from the ski lifts. Nice amenities: gym, pool, sauna, steam room, massages, game room, super fun bar and plenty of lounge area. We stayed here for a week during the holidays with our ski club. We were welcomed with a reception (champagne and appetizers) and the hotel hosted fun holiday events through the week. I must bring attention to a few of my favorites about this hotel... the staff is absolutely impeccable! Extremely accommodating and kind especially housekeeping, our waitstaff, the fun girls at the bar and the amazing massage therapist!! This hotel is also very dog friendly. An experience staying at a hotel is so much more enjoyable when you feel welcomed and this hotel is certainly welcoming. This is our second year with the hotel and we look forward to our third!
Same old place
Portavescovo is an old, big hotel in village Arabba. Building is an alpine style house near the ski slopes. Hotel is good for a stay for up to a week. Visitors enter to the huge reception and have a bar on one side and a place with live music. Your children can find special place for them, too. One part of the ground floor is a gym with really small swimming pool not far from it. Pool is connected with a sauna and Turkish bath. Rooms are mainly in four floors – some partly hidden in another building and in the fifth floor. Furniture needs some change but rooms are clean. Best side of the hotel is a big dining room in the first floor. Breakfast and first part of the supper is self-service. You can find everything you want, with some patience and help of the staff the offer is even bigger. Second part of each supper is served. Choice is good enough. Don’t expect the best restaurant in the mountains but solid cooking. Drivers will be grateful for a garage or free parking outside.
Back for the 5th time
I find it very hard to fault this hotel, it’s position in the centre of the village to its proximity to the nearest lift. It’s wonderful staff and management, the basic but clean and comfortable rooms, great little stube bar, and the super restaurant run superbly by the attentive Giuseppe. I find previous reviews of the restaurant difficult to understand, if you need hotter water for your tea in the morning , if there is something you don’t like JUST ASK, if you don’t like the coffee ask for a cappuccino, nothing is too much trouble for the staff here, I don’t get that you wait until you get home to leave negative reviews. Friday night is sea food night, I don’t eat fish so I asked for something else guess what NO PROBLEM. While we were here this time my wife suffered a skiing injury, the management were superb and gave us all the help and support we needed. The skiing in the Dolomites is fantastic and Arabba and the hotel Portavescovo is smack bang in the middle of it, sure the village is very quiet with very little apri ski but that suits me fine, if you like it a bit livelier you need to look elsewhere. Maybe my only very small negative is that if you like a hot drink in your room you need to take a travel kettle and the TV could do with a few more English channels plus the WI-FI is very hit and miss.
