The Worst Staff

Reviewed 6 january, 2023

The man with a tied hair at the reception desk in the morning was extremely rude and unkind. With no smile at all the time, he complains the hitel system and blames guests. The rooms are dirty. Mediocre breakfast.

good location, BUT !!!!

the location makes this hotel acceptable, there are some grand rooms, usually used for advertising, but the majority are just ok. The bed i had the frame looked as if it had come from IKEA . plastic glasses were not put back in the bathroom to replace the used one. staff not great either. constant smell of the water, (not a nice smell). the breakfast room was very poor as well.

Beware the pony tail!

I wanted to forego all the issues because they’re mainly aesthetic though two were dangerous, but one of the staff changed my mind on being that nice. So let’s do this. You know me as one of the top rated reviewers here and I won’t mince words. I’m honest but fair. The older men at the desk and the maids are just lovely, cautiously polite and friendly and informative, helpful in all ways. The room was fine as far as we were concerned- the hard bed people complain of is great for bad backs if you put a cushion under the back of the top of your knees at night. Bathroom quaint but water tepid at most and a terrible run off - you need to hold the shower rose against you. Windows lovely but we had one frame dangling dangerously off a hinge and they’re huge and heavy things. One power point out of its socket and hanging by wires has obviously been pushed back in a number of times but won’t stay put. Squished bugs - lots of mosquitoes btw - on walls and ceiling which sadly I had to add to. Breakfast much the same as anywhere, no fruits, just the stuff that’s very bad for diabetics or people with high cholesterol - salami cheese and carbs. Coffee is instant from a machine. I don’t know if the juice is juice or some water mix. But all that for a few days stay could have been overlooked except for the fact my daughter had terrible cramps one morning and couldn’t get to breakfast so I went to take six slices of salami and a yogurt up to her but was told: 1. The staff had to deliver it, and 2. Delivery to room would cost ten euros! This is not on any of their websites and it was a minor breakfast but he insisted I come with hi. to read the sign in the breakfast room. I refused. Only to watch others over the next three days load up their plates and take them up to their rooms without paying! My daughter heard this same staff member complaining about clients later that same day and I heard him telling another Aussie he was 38, not paid enough and would love to go to australia but blah blah blah. Pony tail man we call him. Rude and incredibly indiscrete! Good Lord! I’ve read other reviews and see they comment on rude staff. Could only be him. The location of this place is excellent I have to say and so easy to get around but the food everywhere here is v v exp and so is transport. However, stay in Venice and enjoy the experience, just do your research about where to stay.

Pleasant stay, great location

Hotel Panada has other locations in the city and they have various rooms so don't be alarmed if you are placed in a different place than the main hotel. Beautiful reception area. Served quickly and efficiently on arrival. Ensure you have the correct money for the local tax which must be in cash. If you forget, there is an ATM just up from the hotel. We were guided to our hotel room by a staff member who also assisted with our luggage. Reading the reviews, we expected this might happen and also were wary of what we might face but our fears were unfounded really. We had our own entrance to 'Panada G' which is through a secure coded doorway and up stairs. Your card entry is also used for electricity so the fridge in the room won't stay cold when out, neither will anything charge so be aware of that. Our room was fine. Pleasantly decorated and 'old school' with a Murano glass chandelier and classical draped curtains. Separate dressing room with sofa bed. The bathroom was marbelled and stocked with clean towels and toiletries. There is a bath, shower and bidet. The bath doesn't have a plug, so we purchased one to use from a hardware shop (it's a smaller sized hole so a standard won't fit). The shower is lovely with good pressure but the top holder is broken. This wasn't a deal breaker for me. I am only short so sat happily in the bath to use it. Bed was made every day, along with fresh daily towels and restock of toiletries. Lovely housekeeping staff. Hardworking. We paid a really good rate for central Venice, a stone's throw from St Marks Square and close to Rialto so, any little thing like that really didn't cause us any great distress. St Marks Square - so close by. Take earplugs if you don't like noise. You will be central so outside is noisy with tourists. The windows open to the street which is really cool. A shop is nearby as well (just round the back, but it is expensive - convenient, but expensive and stays open late'ish). Be aware as well that in Venice, the bells ring at all hours, for ages at midnight and seven am but also slightly quieter on the hour and just before the hour. Loads of shops closeby. Lots of restaurants and trattorias as well. St Marks, Gondola and alilaguna (bus boat) stops closeby. 5 -10 minutes walk to the hotel from the main San Marco stop. Breakfast is absolutely fine. Its a typical continental. Meats/cheeses. Croissants, breads, butter, Nutella, jam, Melba toasts. One coffee/hot water machine so be prepared to queue at busy times. OJ (concentrated mixed with water). Yoghurts and cereals. It was a very small room so when busy it was quite cramped and crowded so be aware of that. The staff are very nice and will try and help clear tables quickly. I was worried about the reviews but actually had a really nice stay. We were out quite a lot during the day anyway so it suited us fine. Its great location for the price you pay. If you want absolute luxury - you will pay a fair amount more but you can't fault this location.

We booked Antico Panada on basis of high recommendations from friends telling us that we would experience authentic Venezian ambiance and lovely decorated rooms. - nothing could have been more wrong. We were cheated and did never stay in the hotel! Upon arrival the receptionist asked us to follow the bell boy to our room - only he did not take us upstairs but rather out in the street and walked 2 blocks, turned left and walked another some 3 blocks. Then through a narrow spooky alley into a dark courtyeard and to a door with no sighs or name of the hotel. Looked like a private property and we needed a code to get in. Then up the stairs to the first floor and into a room that was plain and simple with so absolutely no Venezian decor nor Murano lamps etc. It did in no way look like the pictures shown on the website! It appeared clean but that is all that can be said. It looked like a room that was provided by the city tourism board or something - but it had no connection to the hotel at all. There was no lounge, no reception or anything so we had to walk to the hotel for breakfast and questions. We felt truly dissapointed. And cheated! The breakfast room at the original hotel is lovely with an old school atmosphere. The food served at the buffet was OK but very plain - and then there did not seem to be room enough for everyone, so you sit very squezed together. The only good thing to say about this hotel is, that the location is top. Within few minutes walking from St. Marcus and the Rialto Bridge only.
