Located near the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia, Novotel Porto Gaia is the ideal hotel to explore the city and the famous Port Wine Cellars! Undoubtedly a major tourist attraction for their wine tastings. Unwind in one of the 93 rooms, relax by the pool or have a drink on the terrace. The hotel also has a children's play area, gardens and 7 fully equipped meeting rooms for events or business meetings.

Very good for families visiting Porto with a car

We have recently stayed at Novotel Porto Gaia, which is not located in city center but can be easily reached by car. From the hotel, main attractions can be reached easily, namely Oporto Wine Caves, Oporto Ribeira, Torre dos Clérigos, the Cathedral, … The hotel has a very good quality / price ratio and is very good for families with children because it offers a swimming pool, a playground and an Xbox / Kinnect games area. Rooms are not very large but ensure its propose (to sleep). Concerning breakfast, it is served as buffet, but Covid-19 measures are guaranteed through the utilization of gloves and cleaning of tables and seats. You can find a large variety of bread, juices, eggs, sausages, fruits and cakes. It’s an excellent option when visiting Oporto and Vila Nova de Gaia area if you have transportation of your own.
PEACE IN A BUSY CITY

The hotel was one of the few with a pool. Food was great and the staff could not have been more helpful. Porto was just a short, cheap, UBER away. The team at reception went out of their way to make bookings and arrange trips for me. As a result I love Porto and will return.
Exceptionally clean hotel with lovely pool

The hotel is quite dated however don’t let this put you off as the hotel is spotlessly clean and in a time of COVID 19 the staff go above and beyond to make sure all areas are cleaned and disinfected regularly and ensure that social distance is kept between guests. The pool area was cleaned twice a day and I felt very safe. Breakfast is a buffet style however staff serve you to ensure there is no sharing of utensils you just point to what you want and they add this to your tray. Masks have to be worn in all public areas but can be taken off when sitting at a table or on your sun bed by the pool. Breakfast consisted of bread rolls, eggs, bacon, tomato and various cheeses and cold meats. There was yoghurt and cereal and mention must be made of their wonderful pastel de nata (custard tart speciality of Portugal) which were delicious. The rooms are basic but beds were super comfy and again the cleanliness was exceptional. The only downside is the hotel is a taxi ride to anywhere in Porto you could walk but the road is quite dangerous and very steep!! Uber was only €4 so not really an issue. The staff are super helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome an safe. They have pizzas and salad on their lunch menu and I would have liked to have seen some smaller bites like tapas style but this was just a minor complaint all in all I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
No AC & no Tech support

All the Hotel didn't have a AC working so room was very hot. The personnel was very friendly and show other rooms but was basically the same! And they didn't have a number to call for the tech to go repair OR even done a "reset" to the unit??? So had to try to sleep with window open but still... and in the morning when i complain, was just a normal Answer.... "will go to see what happen and repair"... And also they want to charge FULL price for a less than half breakfast??? ( no eggs, or hot food) Sorry but not me here no more!
