Worst place to stay

Rooms do not look like pictures!! No comforter on one bed, room was so dirty and there is no daily cleaning service, no in room phone so can't call the desk for anything. Extremely rude desk people. Smells like decomposing rat in hallways, paint peeling, MOLD in AC unit and on curtains. Breakfast was stale bagels and apples. Nasty place just disgusting. Gave it 1 star because zero wasn't an option
Looks Are Deceiving

Don’t be fooled by the nice facade of this hotel. The inside is a nightmare! Just walking into the lobby should have been an indication-cluttered, shabby, and an air of disinterest everywhere. Check in is through an employee on a screen at an unsanitized kiosk at which EVERYONE must touch the same surfaces in order to complete the transaction. Upon completion, you get your keys from the gentleman behind the actual desk. So, why can’t he just check me in??? The hote has clearly seen better days. The hallway carpets are filthy, and the public areas are very run down. I noticed the “clean and sanitized” seals on some of the hotel doors and was heartened to think that COVID protocols were in place and being followed. These were listed as a Commitment to Clean, with deep cleaning in place, sanitizing, and a 24 hour gap between guests. Hmmm…my room had no seal, the toilet seat was up (used?), and there was a film of sand on the floor (no carpet in the room anywhere). When I spoke with the front desk person, she nonchalantly told me that the manager was too busy to put the stickers on sometimes. Wait, in a 24 hour gap period, there was no time to put a sticker on??? No offer to clean the floor, no apology, no nothing. I’m not a freak about the pandemic situation (obviously, since I’m staying at a hotel) but some concern is definitely warranted. I expect protocols to be followed As far as the “hot” breakfast is concerned, don’t bother. The only hot item that don’t make yourself, such as toast, was a bowl of boiled eggs that the attendant proudly announced that she had made. Sadly, they weren’t being kept warm and were already cold. What was supposed to be a last hoorah for summer ended up being a disappointing experience that we tried to make the best of. At least the Shriners were there to offer a bit of entertainment with their mini cars on the boardwalk.
RUN AWAY- do not walk… go ANYWHERE but here

This place is dirty and falling apart. See photos. The elevators are ancient and super slow. The room had been upgraded but there was nowhere to put your soap and shampoo in the bathroom. No hooks for hanging your towel or toiletry bag. Sat on one side of the bed and it nearly flipped over. Turned on the TV and…. No sound. They sent someone up to fix it but he couldn’t figure it out. Never came back till the next day and then they just set up a spare small TV on the counter underneath. The whole place has a “smell”. One night we came back from walking and the desk clerk was sound asleep in his chair. A store owner from across the street said she sees fire trucks there all the time and never hears anything but complaints from guests. Do yourself a favor and take your hard earned money ANYWHERE ELSE.

Thefront desk staff was fantastic. We had everything we needed and a newly remodeled room. The only reason I will not return is because the restaurant that now owns the pool area keeps the music so loud you cannot hear yourself think or talk. This is a shame because it is the best pool on the beach.
Tale of 2 Hotels

Tale of 2 Hotels: The lobby area, ground level bathroom, and hallways were filthy, making me very, very worried about the stay. BUT....the room (lucky to get a renovated one!) was very nice - clean, updated and very tastefully renovated. Unfortunately, they still cite covid restrictions and won't clean your room, regardless of how many nights you stay and how much sand is on your floor, and you have to request towels at the front desk. I thought the beds were very comfy, but my mom thought hers was soft. They are not queen-sized, but full-sized, beds. That was fine for me, but could be tight for a couple. The linens were very clean and fresh. There are a microwave and decent sized fridge in the room. A light breakfast of pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, juices are offered on the second floor from 7-9 am. The room felt slightly small because of the curvature/U shape of the hotel, and that shape also affected the accessibility to the "ocean view" (much better in my room than my mom's). There is an ac/heating unit in each room, which honestly triggered my asthma. We heard a man complaining about how dirty his filter was in his unit (I guess he removed it and looked?) The bottom floor rooms have a complete railing on their "balconies", which I thought would be nice for those with small kids, because it prevents them from accidentally wandering over to the pool area from the bedroom door (they would have to climb over their railing to get to the pool). The pool area is managed by the bar/cafe that is located there. They play pretty good music until about 10-ish pm. The pool and patio need updating, but it remained exceptionally clean throughout our stay (unlike one of the photos I saw posted) The pool is a wonderful size and has wide steps, a ladder, and an accessibility lift. The bar/cafe food on the pool patio was great! However, I didn't like that just anyone walking by (not just hotel guests) could come and go to it, because that means that, conceivably, the whole beach could come to the pool area. The girl at the desk told us that there would be a DJ on the weekend that guests often complain about because it becomes a bar-atmosphere. Thankfully that didn't happen the weekend we were there. I like the quieter location of the south end of the beach, but it was still relatively busy. Thanks to the new law legalizing marijuana in Virginia, you were hit with the smell of pot smoke pretty frequently out on the ocean front and boardwalk. Mid-way through our week's stay, someone directly across from the elevator on the first floor was smoking every night and the smell filled filled the elevator all the way up. Needless to say, this situation was/is very worrisome for children and for those who stay away from that kind of thing, but I guess that isn't the hotel's fault. The night desk-man was very sweet and responsive, as were most of the young ladies working. There was a younger man who wasn't quite as helpful, but he wasn't that terrible either. You had to access the front desk by either walking to it or finding the local number and calling it from you cell phone, because the room phones don't work. The desk man said Cox was down, but the tvs worked fine and I remember reading this as a problem earlier in the summer. Overall, I have to average out the pros and cons and give it a solid 3 star.
