Wouldn't honor my Priceline Reservation
I was told by the hotel that there was a mistake in the booking price on Priceline and the reservation wouldn't be honored. I then called priceline, and was told that the individual hotels submit the rates. I then contacted the 800 number for Extended Stay reservations. I was told by their reservation specialist, Ryan, that they would give me a room instead of a suite for the booking price. Ryan told me that he had talked to the property, and that I should ask for Britney upon arrival. Britney was very helpful, and acknowledged that she had spoken to Ryan. While I was waiting for her to process me her supervisor, Jarell, approached the desk, and told me that the reservation still wouldn't be honored. I was informed that if I didn't cancel on my own I would be charged the rack rate for the room. This was twice what their own website currently had listed. I cancelled out of fear of the extortionary scare tactics being used. Maybe I should have tried to contact my attorney to advise me to the legality of this, but it was Saturday.
If the preview is so horrible, what a nightmare an actual stay would be!!
I didn’t even make it as far as staying there...The experience I had with their front desk staff on the phone itself was so horrible that keeping the reservation I had made would have been absolutely out of the question!! Ms. Dee Dee was condescending in her tone right from the get go when I asked her which facilities were open and which weren’t at this hotel due to Covid. Not to mention, I know for a fact (as I also verified with corporate later) that the information she gave me in her responses was incorrect! Then I asked her the question that was the main reason for my call, which was to verify that the suite I had just booked was indeed appropriate for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids). Although I had entered 2 adults and 2 children in the search criteria online, the actual booking confirmation only showed a room occupancy of 2 adults. I didn’t want to show up at checkin only to be informed that they will not give me the suite because it is designated for 2 adults and we are a family of 4, hence the call to confirm. Instead of answering my question, she kept making weird statements like “Well, I don’t know what your family relationships are...I can’t tell you if you and your kids like to sleep together in one room. Now if you showed up with your boss you wouldn’t sleep in the same room with him, would you?” Excuse me, what???! How does my inquiry have anything to do with my family dynamics or whether I would sleep in the same room with my boss??? Totally uncalled for and inappropriate!!! When I told her she was going off in personal and totally irrelevant directions instead of simply answering a straight forward question, she told me she was answering exactly to what I was asking! I told her in that case she clearly was not understanding my question and she wouldn’t understand it anyway because seems to me she doesn’t want to understand!! She would rather use the opportunity to misunderstand so as to keep talking to me in a mocking tone like I am some fool! My tone was very calm in the beginning but I admit it definitely wasn’t calm by this point, at which time she said “If you are going to yell at me I am going to hang up on you.” I told her I was yelling because I was upset with her rudeness and asked her for her name, upon which she responded, again in a very condescending tone and with a mocking laugh to boot, “As I told you at the top of the call, it is Dee Dee.” As if the customer is obligated to immediately memorize the name of every single representative that answers a business call! At that point I informed Dee Dee I was going to report her, and hung up. I then called corporate and reported her to them. And guess what? Here’s the clincher: The representative I spoke to clearly understood my question re: verifying the suite occupancy limit the very first time, without any difficulty, and further confirmed that the suite was NOT designated for 4 people! So it would indeed have been a problem had I showed up at checkin with my family of 4!!! Turns out Ms. Dee Dee was too obsessed with ridiculing and being rude to me to actually give me the correct information I had called for in the first place! If such is the customer service just at preview, imagine what a nightmare of an experience an actual stay at this facility would have been! Stay away!! Stay far away!!!
Simple, Quiet, Great Staff
Stayed overnight while visiting Christopher Newport University. The decor was a bit tired, but the room was clean, the location was very quiet, and the staff was wonderful! Myomi checked me in, and she was very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. The staff that assembled the included breakfast was very nice, also welcoming and very accommodating This will be my go-to place when visiting the Tidewater Area.
Out of town overnight
We booked a room here for one night, arrived around 2 am. There was a guy at the front desk who had no idea what he was doing...which isn't actually his fault because he should've been trained properly or at least had someone else there to assist him if he had trouble. It took him over an hour to check my husband in and then when we get to the room, the key doesn't work. So back to the front desk we go, and guess what? He's checking someone else in...and it takes him FOREVER!!!! Why was there no manager or supervisor around to assist him?? He tried to call someone for help but couldn't even figure out how to dial out on the hotel phone. My husband called the front desk and explained to them the situation and they were so nonchalant about it. Will never stay here again.
Friendly place for travel with pets
While there is not external access from each room, they make an effort to give pet owners a room near an exit. Overall staff were great. So friendly and helpful. Rooms are adequate, breakfast needs some more health options. Mostly starch and sugar. Efficient, clean and just fine for travel with pets. Lots of other pet owners and families. We would stay again when visiting relatives in the area.
