Mercury Barons Court Hotel, Walsall
Opinión escrita el 23 de Septiembre de 2021
The reservation was made by a friend and I have to admit reading previous reviews I was somewhat aprehensive about my 3 night stay
Yes the exterior isn’t the best of first impressions, but there was plenty of parking spaces for guests
The reception staff ( both night and day) were really friendly and informative.
However there is a lift but it’s not working and according to the staff there have been attempts to repair it with no joy!!
The hotel is in the process of a refurb and the stair area going to the rooms on the 1st- 3rd floors, is grubby looking, carpets and skirting boards are badly stained and scratched.
However my room on the 2nd floor was well furnished, modern and extremely clean and obviously recently refurbished. The bed was very comfortable plenty of really hot water both morning and night when required. During the redecoration they hadn’t replaced the tiles in the bathroom and a couple were cracked. But it was very clean.
I didn’t eat in the restaurant as breakfast was served from 06-0800 and too early for me, seemed to be geared towards the business and construction workers requirements with regard to availability dinner is 18-20.00 hrs and again not used by myself.
I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel after having read the previous reviews to my visit.
Would I stay there again - yes and would be interested to see how far they’ve progressed with the renovations
It’s good value for money.
The staff are really helpful and courteous.
Not what you'd expect from Mercure - It's a tip!

Staff couldn't give a toss.
Restaurant not open at 7.55pm
Receptionist could be arsed to tell us of a restaurant pub right across the road, nor provide any takeaway menus or suggestions.
It seemed like there was a rave going on in the hotel and drunken revellers running amok even in the small hours.
The only good think was a decent bed.
There were no light bulbs in bedside lights, no batteries in the remote for TV. No WifI,
Even the lift was broken.
It really is a dump
Family Visit To Stonall

On arrival, we were a bit disappointed with the outside decor, very tired looking in bad need of a good facelift.
Entering, the lobby looked okay and friendly staff on reception.
The lower floor and different areas has been tastefully decorated, the bar and restaurant area all good, breakfast was really good, but we wanted something for evening meal but the menu very very limited and was not good at all, eat out ! all cooked from frozen, like oven chips, the lasagne was inedible and the cod bites rock hard and not hot, the soup was like a pudding obviously from a powder mix
There are no bedrooms on the ground floor, we were put on the second floor and I could hardly breath with all the flights of stairs, so I think if you have a lot of luggage etc it was a nightmare, I asked if we could be put lower floor but none available.
So when booking you should ask, especially if you have breathing difficulties or any disability, as you would not be able to stay there as the one small lift was out of order????
Once on the second floor it was like hike to get to your room?
Room was okay, but only had one chair, no table with hotel info on!, no easy chair although there was room for them, we had to sit on the bed all the time, but if you wanted to go down stairs the seating was fabulous
no telephone either, bathroom was okay very clean which means so much, feel sorry for the maids/cleaners have to troop up all those stairs! on looking out the bathroom window I saw something flapping ? it was a great chunk of soffit or boarding broken away but just held there by some wiring that had been nailed to it.
Staff were okay, but I think the poor manager must be pulling his hair out with the condition of this much loved Hotel of many years ago? But still would not have liked being on the second floor, this is a lesson learnt for us, before we book any hotel in the future we will ask, if a lift is installed and working, glad we only had Two nights, I missed breakfast on the second day as I could not face going back to the room!
If you are young you don't mind the trek up a few flights, but young families should be warned too carrying kiddies up steep narrow stairs. the price is reasonable etc: No I would not stay there again!
Not the standard you expect from Mercure

On arrival it was obvious that the hotel was in need of tlc. The lifts were not working so you had to drag suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. The interior was in need of refurbishment, my carpet was heavily stained, the floor moved when you walked, indicated that the joyce need attention. My tv was broken and customers were blamed! Fire Alarms went off and rats scurrying on ceiling meant I lacked sleep. The Breakfast was horrible as it was cold. This hotel when booking should come with a warning, as it does not meet the standards of a Mercure Hotel.
Coach Holiday Stay
Opinión escrita el 16 de Agosto de 2021
At the beginning of August, we spent 4 nights at this hotel as part of a 5 day coach holiday.
On arrival, the reception & bar area were really nice & the reception were all prepared with everyone's room keys etc.
We were given a room on the second floor & informed the lift was out of order. As we approached the first staircase, we noticed the carpets & stairs were extremely dirty & marks all over the stairs, not a good start. The room we were given faced the main road, it was a large bedroom but parts of the carpet were dirty, the wall facing bed had paper coming off the wall & looked like there had been a flood. Our TV didn't work either.
After a chat with reception, we were offered an alternative room on the first floor. It was so much nicer, bit smaller but more comfy & even had a mini fridge in. Lovely decor & spotlessly clean.
Our meals were breakfast & evening meal, all buffet style. To be honest, they were basic but manageable. My hubby has dietary needs & thanks to their excellent receptionist Molly, she conversed with the chef & they accommodated my hubby's requirements best they could.
Special thanks to their manager Patrick & receptionist Molly, both went above & beyond everyday to do all they could to help us all. A real credit to the hotel.
Its a shame Mercure Hotels (Accor), don't do more to help this hotel. With a bit of money, they could bring the standard up much higher if they replaced carpets in corridors & carried out repairs in some of their rooms. The team work incredibly hard & I think Accor need to do more to help them.
