We love Garden Inns and this one was no different. Within walking distance to GW university, great room, clean, nice staff, valet parking for an extra charge. Just what you expect! Within walking distance to almost everything!!

February Three Days at the Hilton Garden Inn

Reviewed 13 february, 2023

I always stay at the this hotel because it has such a great location. It is close to Foggy Bottom Metro Station, a 15 minute walk to Georgetown, a 7 minute walk to Dupont Circle and 20 to 30 minute walk to the Whitehouse and the museums. Simply put everything is close and the hotel is nestled in the very nice West End part of DC. I have stayed at this hotel many times since 2014 (or it may have been 2013). It is obviously nice but I must admit it really does need a refresh of the rooms now. They have not been updated since my first visit that I believe that was the summer of 2014 when I visited with my son as were visiting both Georgetown and George Washington Universities. The carpets are the same. They are clean and good quality but probably should be changed to a more modern design now. The wood frame around the desk and the draws, which also encompass the fridge, are now chipped and need to be resurfaced. Now , saying this, the rooms are nice and I really do not have a problem with them but just need retouching. I always reserve a the room with a sofa. This time the 1 King Bed Deluxe, which I think are the best rooms as they have more space especially if one reserves the 2 Queen Bed Deluxe rooms. However this time I had the top floor (room 1005 and there was a strange smell in the bathroom that forced me to move rooms. Also, house cleaning forgot to empty the 2 bins under under the desk area, which did surprise. The digital key on my phone also did not work on room 1005. However when I went down to reception Ms. Terri was excellent. She looked for alternative rooms and found me a 2 Queen Bed Deluxe room, albeit on the 4th floor and the next day arranged for me to move up to the 7th floor, room 705 because I wanted a higher floor. She really went out of her way to ensure I had a room that I would like on the side of the street as they are brighter. My only other slight complaint of the hotel is they need to use better quality toilet rolls. The ones in the room are too thin and flimsy compared to other hotels that I stay in. This was the case the last visit I had in December 2022, so perhaps it is due to supply shortages, if not the hotel should go back to the quality they used to use before COVID-19. Ms. Terri was fantastic. She came up to Room 1005 to check out the smell and let me know that it was probably the result of outside work on the drainage that the city had completed a few days earlier that had affected several rooms on the 10th floor and showed me several rooms to ensure that I was happy and also to ensure that none of them had that smell that was strong in room 1005. She went over and above the call of duty and each day I came down the other young lady, Shema, made sure she enquired that everything was okay. In short, the staff are excellent at this hotel and both Terri and Shema were exceptional. The only reason why this trip I gave a score of 4 rather than 5 stars was merely the slight issue I had with room 1005, that really was not the hotels fault. This is a nice hotel and reasonably priced for the West End part of DC, that is generally expensive for any hotel. I still highly recommend this hotel and Terri told me it is going to be refreshed in the slow season later this year. It is still my DC hotel of choice.

This hotel has it all

Hilton's Garden Inn Georgetown has it all. Nice updated rooms, friendly staff, top in-house restaurant for dining or room service, close to attractions, shopping and located in the nice neighborhood of Georgetown. Valet parking was easy, checkin was quick, room was clean and location was safe for walking.

Okay for a short stay

Overall, it wasn’t bad and location was ideal but it was an underwhelming experience. I paid for the “Experience The Stay” rate through the official Hilton website and both when I called and when I arrived the front desk agent had no idea what I was talking about. I specifically wanted to inquire about using the credit that can be used at the hotel for food and drink but he had no idea what I was talking about and said he would talk to his manager but there was no follow-up. I even showed the confirmation email to him and he still didn’t know what I was referring to because his computer wasn’t showing what my email was showing. What do I say to that? I effectively paid for something that didn’t exist that is certainly frustrating. There were also minor things that added up to a less than comfortable stay. Uncomfortable mattress, desk chair wouldn’t lift (I’m 5’9’’ and I was sitting close to the floor), was using facial soap to wash my hands, shower wasn’t that hot. These are all things I can deal with for a 1 night stay but I would’ve checked out earlier if I was staying longer.

This was a trip to visit with my son, and it was very nice because we could go and see everything and walk to everything or take a Uber. I like the area I enjoyed the closeness to the coffee shops, and the Ease what you could get around.
