Great choice in West Des Moines

This is a modern hotel well located near shopping and restaurants in West Des Moines. The complimentary breakfast is better than most hotels provide. The large room included a kitchen (fridge, cook top, microwave, and sink which makes this a great stop if you need some place to stay for several days. We like upper floors to get away from street noise. The only negative is the low shower pressure. Hotels seem to be going to this and I find I probably use as much water because it takes longer. You can't miss if you pick the Element for your West Des Moines stay.

We were traveling cross country and picked this hotel to stay at. I will say it is new, clean and I really liked the decor! The bed was comfortable and the room had everything that we could have wanted. The issues that we had were: 1. There appears to be a club of some sort close by. They were BLASTING rap music at 2 AM. Made it difficult to sleep. I am not sure if this was because it was a Sat night but It was very loud. 2. I went to use the fitness center in the morning and they keep it set at 73 degrees (?) I don't keep my house - in New England BTW - set that warm IN THE WINTER. I have no idea why the temperature was that high but the thermostat was locked so I could not adjust it. As a note I went to Orangetheory that morning close by and they set their thermostat to 62 as a point of comparison. However, I found that the staff were all nice and I would stay here again!
Beautiful hotel, but ask for a higher floor

The Element West Des Moines was a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. Safe, quiet, and walking distance to several restaurants and shops. The front desk staff was not particularly friendly, but did their jobs. The room itself was great - clean and modern - BUT we were on the first floor. Someone was directly outside our window in the parking lot smoking and chatting loudly on a cell phone around midnight. Drove our dog nuts and made it difficult to sleep. I'll never understand why hotels don't soundproof their first floor rooms better. In summary, I'd consider staying here again but only if we could get a room on a higher floor.

Most bizarre element and Marriott property I’ve stayed. They had a dog in their office who was howling very loudly all during breakfast. I was “upgraded” to a accessible room that was apparently their biggest room. The overall room did not feel clean. I slept with my sweatshirt hood up because the linens did not smell good. Breakfast was pretty substandard in comparison to what I’ve seen in other elements. Maybe that’s the new spread. The Bozeman element has an amazing breakfast spread and is always very clean year after year. Too bad about this element because they are in a good location. I wouldn’t stay here again.
Awesome. Will be back

Awesome place. Very well kept. Rooms are great. Hot tub was nice and hot. Pool was decently warm (not freezing like others). GREAT PLACE! Breakfast was good. COFFEE was great! Definitely a great place to take a family, your kids. Lots of restaurants and things that n the area to do if you need something to eat
