Overly Priced Boutique Chain Hotel

Reviewed 11 november, 2021

We went away for one night. At $700 (excl breakfast) we were expecting something very special. What we got was a Marriott dressed up as a boutique hotel. Sure it was somewhat trendy and the rooftop names but the rooms were nothing special (no bath tub in the king rooms FYI). I realize options are limited in PB for trendy hotels but I would much rather have done the Hilton or Hyatt as the hotel didn’t offer enough to want to lounge around there.

Unique, Imperfect Hotel in Great Location

Reviewed 11 november, 2021

4.0 is about right for this hotel if you can afford it. What you get for the steep price is a great location, nice and unique hotel with tasteful furnishings and a definite boutique feeling. I usually find real boutique hotels have more attitude and trendiness than they do actual luxury or service and this place was no exception. Front desk was friendly but a bit disorganized. Rooms are nice but again not super luxurious; there are nicer beds, linens and towels in other high-end Marriott properties. Great views of the harbor and waterfront from the room we had. Didn't use valet parking (not worth it to me and don't want the unmasked valet guys in my car) but there is a very close public self-park lot for $10 a night. Lots of lobby traffic to the roof bar but didn't hear any loud music. Breakfast needs improvement. Service was sluggish, no masks (sorry I still want wait staff to be wearing masks when they are breathing on my food and going from table to table no matter what the local laws allow) and inconsistent quality. Some items were pretty good but the avocado toast was mushy and the pancakes were inedible and just fell apart; I think they forgot something in the batter. Would not recommend breakfast if you don't have it included. Overall I give four stars mostly on the strength of the location and the design.

We were totally impressed with The Ben. One of the best hotels we visited for a very long time.

I am a firm believer in checking the reviews and selecting the comments that would most impact on our stay. We are an older couple, as such, not really qualified to evaluate the "party scene" at the rooftop bar and restaurant. However, from our walk through it seemed to be what young to middle aged people would enjoy to the fullest. There was a very happy vibe. Reading about the loud music and party atmosphere, we requested a room a few levels below the roof and it was perfect. We had some concern with the noise level after hours but had no problem whatsoever. The hotel is beautiful, all the staff treat you like you are an honored guest and everyone went out of their way to make sure we were happy. I am sorry I did not note the names of the employees we engaged with because each one was a pleasure - professional and friendly. The room was lovely and the bathroom and shower were exceptionally nice. Read the reviews to determine if this is a hotel that caters to your expectations. We were not typical of the guests but we loved our stay.

The BEN is not just a hotel, it is like coming back to family.

I Truly am at a loss of words. Having been in the program for 30 years, life time member. The BEN has to be one of the top 5 Hotels I have ever stayed in, it is something beyond Unique. When I got home from the BEN 2 weeks ago. The next morning I booked my 3rd trip, for Dececetber. I must Mention Kara !!!!! She is truly the Best, I came down in May for my 30 Anniversary, she was the one I annoyed the most. Her Motto waswhen we had first Spoken With enough Notice, I can try get any thing, Bernado, the GM is all over, his credentials are amazing (Johnson/ Wales). Walking to my suite after breakfast, saw him earlier, that morning,i pass him know he is flipping a room. Crystal!! Should also win a great big Trophy’ For also putting up with me. With the hardest guest!!! She smiles, andgets them with kindness. Gabby behind the scene's. The best Director of rooms. Every thing else. Also thanks to Hasni, the best Concierge around. Great job on Getting Chef Jessie, I remember his food from Hawaii. Congratulations 🍾 to MORTAZA on his promotion. Keep up the great job. Shout out to Jennifer and Naomy, at the front. New addition Kevin, also with incredible credentials. The man is where every food is being served. Robin who I meet as the Pool Restaurant Manager Craig the Afternoon Valet Supervisor, had my bike ready every day Breakfast Ruth Genius Ahmed the best waiter The pool Teddy is the Best Thank you Summer Brooke Eric Then there is AJ counting the money. Where else but the BEN can you Stare at Billions of dollars of yachts. Or just never leave the hotel. If I forgot any one sorry. See you all in December Howard

Beautiful decor, great location, pool too small, housekeeping poor

Reviewed 9 october, 2021

Decorator done rooms with very nice touches. Rooms are a nice size. Our darkening shade was torn. Front desk and valet staff are lovely. As others have noted, the pool with restaurant and bar area on the roof have a dj on the weekends. Generally an adult party atmosphere. We were looking for more serene but some may enjoy this. The pool is small with few chairs. Cabanas are available for a steep cost. Housekeeping is the biggest con. Did not replenish towels and stood outside rooms multiple mornings speaking loudly to each other and slamming propped doors. Worst of all urinated in our toilet and left lots of toilet paper without flushing. Certainly expected better at this price point.
