Firstly, a big shout out to Cleona who was absolutely excellent and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. She is most definitely the Lion's greatest asset! The bar area and the roaring fire was a huge draw and very welcome after a day out walking. Unfortunately though we were disappointed with our overall stay. We booked the indulgent room (Room 7) since it was a birthday treat but found the room to be very uninviting. Cleona provided a lamp which did help but it could have been much more cosy with better lighting and better curtains. Whilst breakfast was good, there were a few things missed from our order on two mornings and the presence of dogs in the bar, where breakfast was served, was off putting. Perhaps we should have done a little more research.
Love The Lion, home from home!

We are always looked after so well here and there is a great atmosphere in the bar/restaurant, along with great food and service. Fantastic team who always go above and beyond to make our stay that bit more special.
Review of stay October 2021

We stayed at The Lion Inn for three nights. Our room was comfortable but we would like to make the following observations: there did not appear to be any ventilation in the bathroom, the bedroom window was unable to stay open without something wedged underneath it, the wall mirror in the bedroom is placed in such a way that no hairdryer lead can reach it, a common error made by people who design rooms but never stay in them. Although we had booked dinner for the whole of our stay we only ate in the restaurant on our first night , Monday 25th. We found the food mediocre (like school dinners) and not value for money, and our waitress surly however, the biggest issue we had was with the background music being played at such a volume that it was like sitting through a thunderstorm the whole evening, even though we were not seated near a speaker, it is far too loud! As another reviewer mentioned recently, the acoustics in the bar and restaurant need looking at and also softeners placed on the bottom of the chairs legs to reduce the endless scrapping noise between chair leg and stone floor. For the remainder of our stay we ate at Wesley House and found the service (they seemed pleased to see us!) and food amazing for only a fraction more than we had paid on the Monday evening. If The Lion Inn want to see (listen) to how background music should be played - if it must be played - please pay a visit to this restaurant!
Beware of room prices!

This place is not as good as it used to be. It is a simple pub, well positioned in Winchcombe, but the rooms are small and, though clean, are becoming tired. Billing is through a central agency which seems to be located abroad. Rooms are worth £100-120 per night B&B but not the near £200 per night my wife and I were charged for a midweek October break. Such a shame. Waitresses friendly. The pub is an old friend but is slipping in its standards and its pricing needs careful watching
Dog friendly Cotswolds Inn

I recently stayed here for a family celebration. There were 9 of us in our party and 4 dogs so we booked 5 of the classic rooms. I came across The Lion Inn via an internet search so was a little worried what it would be like, I needn’t have been! It is a lovely old Inn in the heart of the Cotswolds which is extremely dog friendly. The rooms were comfortable and quirky, dinner and breakfast were superb and the staff were very helpful. We will definitely be returning.
