Visited The Dower House for lunch , first time we have been here even though we have been to Woodhall Spa lots of times . It’s tucked away and is very quiet very green and leafy the garden and grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept
Our server today was John , very welcoming and friendly and attentive, I wanted to order lunch not quite as was on the menu and it was no problem 👍. When lunch arrived it was plenty big enough and delicious ( haddock was just perfect)
We had a lovely relaxing lunch and drinks , very comfortable and def will be coming again 😁

Dower House Hotel Review

Just returned after having a fantastic weekend away at The Dower House.
My Son and I came to Caldwell Park for the weekend of British Superbikes- we stayed at The Dower House as it wasn’t far from the track.
The Dower House Hotel is fantastic, the staff were very friendly - the rooms are immaculate and the food was first class !
We would definitely recommend The Dower House Hotel and we’ve spoke about returning as a family .
Thank you for your first class hospitality and we will definitely see you all in the near future !
peaceful and comfy

The hotel down a quite cul de sac. Although the hotel is in a town, it felt very private and surprisingly rural and out of the way.
Spacious parking, that I can imagine parking is never an issue.
The house looks nice, but sadly the reception is stuffed in a small room and when you enter to book in you lose any sense of grandeur and feels like a school office. That said the reception was friendly and helpful.
Our room number 14 was in the separate wing. This wing has additional adjacent parking, was appreciated as sometimes we have found you have to carting all your luggage way to far for any additional annexed rooms. The room was 1st floor and I was grateful to find that there was a lift.
The room was a good size, light and bright with nice dual aspect windows, which gave a nice breeze. The bed was big and comfy and bedding felt nice. There was a generous size size wardrobe, which had shelving for clothes but limited drawers in the room. This was fine for only an overnight stay, but I'd find it harder for multiple nights.
There was however dress hanging in the wardrobe from previous guest, so obviously the wardrobe not checked by cleaner.
I liked there was a portable fan for guest use.
There was a dressing table with stool and mirror with lighting and plug close for appliances, which was thought out and appreciated. 2 drawers in dresser that had detritus in them and obviously not checked and cleaned.
There were 2 chairs and a small table in the room, but personally I’d prefer a bigger comfier chair, so I didn’t need to lounge on the bed. But they were bucket type an reasonably comfy.
I liked the large ottoman at the bottom of the bed. Really useful for putting bags on.
There were Plugs by bed but no usb facility plug, which I’ve found most upmarket rooms have.
He room had aFlat screen tv with free view but could have done with being on the wall, as when you payed on the bed it was a bit too low down to watch.
I liked the powerful shower which was over the bath. I appreciate why hotels have baths, but I felt the bathroom was large enough for a great walk in shower. For me, i found the bath filled with water up to my ankles, when I was showering and washing my hair, I. not sure if that was the drain or volume of water or both. Towels reasonable size, although I’d prefer bigger bath sheet size. I noticed once in he shower that the top of lower sash window in bath room was dirty, with an accumulation of fly poo. The bathroom had a large
long surface area, great for toiletries and cosmetics, which I think is great in a bathroom and was greatly appreciated for all our stuff spread out. I liked that there was a hook on the bathroom door and a chair in there.
Bathroom door stuck awfully when closed, very difficult to open
Nice that fresh milk was an option if you ask for it.
Disappointing to see a Large Fly splatted on ceiling by previous occupant, but not cleaned off by cleaner.
We had booked for dinner. We had a drink on the patio prior to dining. I liked the outside chairs and they were comfy. It was a shame that the access in and out to the patio from the bar, felt like a tradesman's entrance, dowdy and cramped. There was a fair choice of drinks and I liked that they had locally made gin available. Dinner choices were reasonable. I found the food ok. The pea and ham croquettes were tasty and fresh but lacking ham. The main of salmon chowder was tasty, but for me as an accomplished cook was just too simple and lacked finesse. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of white wine and was pleasantly surprised that it was priced at a very reasonable £20.
The hotel was so quiet and we slept really well. We had the full English breakfast. I appreciated that the food arrived quickly as was pipping hot. There was a generous portions of items, including mushrooms I like that there was nice seedy brown bread for toast, not a thin cheap one. For me personally I hate bought packet potato hash browns and thing they cheapen a meal. So it was a shame to see them on the plate. There was an alternative choices of smoked salmon, but ideally id have liked a more up to date option of something like avocado on sourdough.
I think the hotel was good value for money with the mid week price of £150 for dinner bed and breakfast. It was lovely and quiet, comfy and restful. For me eating at a hotel is a big part of the treat and the meal just didn't meet my personal expectations. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the meal and many would probably find it most enjoyable. Perhaps my dinner expectations were just too high
In conclusion I would go again, but it wouldn't be my 1st choice.
Delightful food and service

We had dinner at this hotel with friends. It’s a pleasant, quiet, cosy place. It was also Monday night so not too busy.
The menu was well thought out and they were very very good with trying to make sure our dietary requirements were catered for.
The food was very good too and the service was second to none.
We had throughly pleasant dinner.
